RICH SQUARE n Felix Phillips Jr., 79, a native of Northampton County, died March 10, 2005 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Rex Edwards. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Phillips was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Nathaniel Phillips and Larry Blount, both of Rich Square; six daughters, Brenda Hines of Knightdale, Sharon Edwards and Annie Phillips, both of Rich Square, Geneva George of Clinton, N.J., Joyce McGill of Vista, Calif., and Louise Phillips of East Orange; one brother, Mason Phillips of Paterson; 22 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

James Greene Jr.

WINDSOR n James Greene Jr., 72, died March 16, 2005 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

Lena Holloman

MURFREESBORO n Lena Holloman, 57, a native of Hertford County, died March 14, 2005 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Lewis. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Holloman was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Thurman and Travis Holloman of Murfreesboro; five daughters, Anges Scott, Teikesha Gatling, Angela Everette and Stephanie Johnson, all of Murfreesboro and Telishia Ruffin of Lewiston; three brothers, Henry Williams and Grant Harrell, both of Harrellsville and David Lewis of Wilmington, DE; one sister, Mary Johnson of Wilmington; and 16 grandchildren.

Jacobia P. Hicks

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Jacobia Paul Hicks, 82, a native of Murfreesboro, died March 9, 2005, in Chesapeake General Hospital.

Hicks was in the U.S. Army during World War II, and retired as a dispatcher at the Norfolk Naval Air Station. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Northwest, and was a self-employed master barber.

Survivors include one brother, Bishop George O. Hicks Sr. of Portsmouth; and one sister, Ivennia Ennis of Norfolk

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Bethel Baptist Church, 3841 Bunch Walnuts Road, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Samuel Sykes. Burial will follow with military honors in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow in the funeral home.

Edward C. Barrett

GREENVILLE – Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Edward Carlton Barrett, a native of Como, died March 15, 2005, in his home. He was the widower of Claire Barrett.

Barrett graduated from Chowan College in Murfreesboro, and moved to Portsmouth, where he worked in the shipyard with the Navy.

Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Claire Barrett of Virginia Beach; his son, Bruce Carlton Barrett of Tallahassee, Fla.; four grandchildren, G. Kyle Gift and wife Amanda of Virginia Beach, Dr. Barrett W. Gift of Bryan, Texas, Travis Carlton Barrett of Daytona and Alexandra &uot;Zan&uot; Barrett of Tallahassee. Ed and his family have greatly appreciated the friendship, care and support provided by Dr. John Fogarty of Physicians East, Harriett Wilder, RN and all staff of 3HC and Kitty Askins Hospice.

It is suggested that contributions in his memory be made to First Presbyterian Church of Goldsboro Columbarium Fund, 3HC Hospice Program of Goldsboro and Greenville or Cypress Glen Retirement Community Chapel. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Ash Street, Goldsboro. Howell Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge.

A memorial service is being scheduled at Cypress Glen Chapel for the weekend and interment with full military honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Mae Belle Chappell

BELVIDERE -Mae Belle Chappell, 78, a native of Gates County, died March 17, 2005, in Country Oaks Manor. She was the widow of Thomas W. Chappell Sr.

Mrs. Chappell was a retired elementary teacher with Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, she also taught music in the Perquimans County School System for many years. A graduate of both Chowan College and Elizabeth City State University, she was a member of Hobbsville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Thomas W. Chappell Jr. of Belvidere; a brother, Paige Hobbs of Hertford; and a granddaughter.

A funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Piney Woods Friends Meeting by Pastor Frank Carter. Burial will be in the Chappell family cemetery. Miller Funeral Home in Edenton is in charge.

Irene E. Daniels

CORAPEAKE -Irene Eure Daniels, 88, a native of Corapeake, died March 16, 2005.

Mrs. Daniels was a homemaker.

She was a member of Eureka Baptist Church, she was active in its Ida K. Brinkley Sunday School Class, the W.M.U., and the Young at Heart Seniors Group.

Survivors include three daughters, Deborah Carter of Gatesville, Janet Brumfield of Nags Head and Renee Blythe of Courtland, Va.; her son, H.B. Lilley Jr. of Corapeake; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Eureka Baptist Church by the Rev. Cameron Currin. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge. Tzu-Chin Yang

MURFREESBORO – Tzu-Chin Yang, 86, a native of China, died March, 17, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of Hung-Hsing Yang.

Mrs. Yang was a housewife.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. Billy Sellers. The family request no flowers, and donations to University Heath Systems Hospice Care, 521 West Myers St. Ahoskie, N.C. 27910. Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, is in charge.

Survivors include three daughters; Chu-Ying Yang of Ahoskie, Li-Ming Yang of Murfreesboro, and Li-Ying Yang of Franklin, Va.; three sons; Te-Kuei Yang and Te-Lin Yang, both of Murfreesboro and Te-Hsing Yang, also Franklin; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

NORFOLK, Va. – Anderson Boone Jr., 72, died March 14, 2005.

Beatrice Moore

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Beatrice Moore, 88, a native of Lewiston, died March 15, 2005, at DePaul Medical Center, Norfolk. She was the widow of Frank Moore.

She was a member of Luella Baptist Church in Lewiston.

Survivors include three sisters, Etta Smith and Nadine Bunch, both of Portsmouth and Marion Lightner of New Jersey.

Amanda E. Bond

WINDSOR n Amanda Elizabeth Bond, a native of Bertie County, died March 4, 2005 at Bertie Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Walter Daniel Bond.

Survivors include her children, Emma J. Outlaw and Milton E. Bond, both of New York, Lois B. Bazemore and Melvin E. Bond, both of Windsor; one sister, Odell J. Davis of Virginia; three grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Lester Parker

CHARLOTTE — Lester "Les" Parker, 67, passed away Friday, March 11, 2005 at Ocean Isle Beach.

A service to celebrate his life was held March 15, 2005 in the Chapel of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, J. Leonard Parker and Etheleen Parker Martin, his aunt, Geneva Vann, who grew up as his sister.

He is survived by his wife, Shelia H. Parker of Charlotte; his children, Amy Parker of Denver, N.C., Nick Parker and wife, Donna of Chapel Hill, and Margaret Parker and husband, David Hollander of Brooklyn, N.C.; and his brothers, Joe and wife, Jeanette Parker, Larry and wife, Deborah Parker of Murfreesboro.

Burial was in Charlotte, N.C.
