WINDSOR n Amanda E. Bond, 82, died March 4, 2005 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Speller's Chapel Disciples of Christ Church, Windsor. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Alton L. Outlaw

COLERAIN n Alton Leon Outlaw, 59, a native of Portsmouth, Va., died March 9, 2005 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Survivors include his spouse, Edith Mae Twine Outlaw of the Deloatch home in Murfreesboro; children, Frankie Outlaw, David Outlaw, Jamey Outlaw and Peggy Ann Outlaw, all of Ahoskie, Calvin Outlaw of Durham, Jerry Outlaw of Concord, Peggy Outlaw of Jacksonville and Janice Dent of Charlotte; sisters and brothers, Florence Jyles of Colerain, Ezell Elmandorf of Exmore, Va., James Holley of Newport News, Herbert, Samuel Larry, Diane, Shirley, Tassie and Brenda Easterling, all of New Jersey; and 14 grandchildren.

A chapel service will be conducted at 11 a.m. in Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, by the Rev. Mary Drake. Burial will be in the Riddick family cemetery, Colerain.

Elizabeth H. Crary

COMO -Elizabeth Hewitt Crary, 78, a native of New Haven County, Conn., died March 10, 2005 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

Mrs. Crary was a retired secretary for Winchester Repeating Arms, and a member of Barnes United Methodist Church, Newsoms, Va.

Survivors include her husband, William James Crary; a daughter, Joy Candice Thorpe of Norfolk; a stepdaughter, Janice L. Crary of Groton, CT.; one stepson, Thomas W. Crary of Middletown; a half sister, Judy Gray of New Hampshire; a half brother, Amos G. Hewitt, Jr. of Hamdent; two grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Highland Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Dr. Gary W. Hartman. The family will assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. prior to services. The family request that flowers be omitted and donations be made to Alzheimers Research, 15825 Shady Grove Rd., Suite 140, Rockville, MD.

AHOSKIE n Mrs. Lacie Jenkins, died March 10, 2005 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

C. Deroy Bunch Sr.

TYNER – Curtis Deroy Bunch Sr., 86, a native of Gates County, died March 8, 2005, in his home.

Bunch was a graduate of Chowan College, he was a retired shipfitter from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, was a member of Warwick Baptist Church and the Ryland Ruritan Club and faithfully attended Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife, Regina Byrum Bunch; a daughter, Scarlett B. Parkinson of Toledo, Ore.; two sons, Curtis D. Bunch II and Ricky D. Bunch, all of Tyner; a sister, Kathleen Wagner of Sandusky, Ohio; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

A funeral was conducted Friday in Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Chuck Davis. Burial was in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, was in charge. Vivian H. Stallings

BELVIDERE – Vivian Hendrix Stallings, 89, a native of Gates County, died March 8, 2005, in Brian Center of Hertford. She was the widow of R. Alton Stallings.

Mrs. Stallings was a homemaker, she was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda S. Sawyer of Belvidere; two sisters, Frances Bazemore of Corapeake and Juanita Trotman of Hobbsville; a brother, Robert Hendrix of Hobbsville; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted Thursday in Stallings family cemetery by the Rev. E. Vernon Gilmer Jr. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge.

Dossie Taylor

Dossie Taylor, also known as "Dot" was born on April 8, 1926 in Hertford County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Betty Sue Deans. She died on February 25, 2005.

Her funeral services were held on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Unity Funeral Chapels, Inc., New York City.

Dossie leaves to cherish her loving memories: five sons, Sang Jim Hamilton, Sr. (Shirley) of Winton, North Carolina, Alvin Hamilton of New York City, William "Sonny" Hamilton (Cabrina) of Bronx, New York, Jadell Hamilton and Melvin Hamilton, Sr. (Eula) of Tampa, Florida; five daughters, Arlene Nichols and Ruby Hamilton of New York City, Mattie Davis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Constance Aikens of Tampa, Florida, and Barbara Gregg of Bronx, New York; a special friend, William "Bob" Croskey of New York City; eighteen (18) grandchildren, Robert Jr., Rodney, Chris, Cedric, Sang Jr., Deon, Shanta, Kendra, Nakita, Kenneth, Chinithia, Tameika, Christopher, Ahmed Jamal, Tanya, Algia, Melvin Jr., and Mikial; twenty eight (28) great-grandchildren; one brother, James Kelly Deans (Patricia) of Ahoskie, North Carolina; three sisters, Josephine Moore of Laurel, Maryland, Susan Jackson of Clinton, Maryland, and Alma Parker of Ahoskie, North Carolina; sister-in-laws, Annel Taylor of New Jersey; a host of nieces, nephews, and a multitude of other relatives and friends.

Extended family members, Julious "Duke," Bonetta, Beverly, Sheron Dais, Barry "BJ" Harris, and Anthony Smith of New York City.

In addition to her mother and husband, her brother, Edward Taylor, and two sons, Robert and Christopher Hamilton, preceded Dossie in death.

James W. Harris

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – James W. Harris, 78, a native of Ahoskie, died March 8, 2005, in Maryview Medical Center.

Harris retired after 50 years as a self-employed vendor. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy L. Harris; a daughter, Doris M. Burton of Portsmouth; a son, James Earl Harris of Chesapeake; a sister, Estelle Perry of New York City; two brothers, Andrew Lloyd Harris of Philadelphia and Columbus Bell Vaughan of Woodland; and two grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Friday in Roosevelt Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Chesapeake, by Elder Barnes Rogers. Burial was in Roosevelt Memorial Park with military honors. Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth chapel, was in charge.

Mary Pitchford

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Mary Pitchford, 87, a native of Seaboard, died March 9, 2005, at Maryview Medical Center. She was the widow of Isaac Pitchford.

Mrs. Pitchford was a Jehovah’s Witness.

Survivors include three daughters, Mae Parker and Shirley Sherrard, both of Portsmouth and Barbara A. Vaughn of Chesapeake; a son, James Kee of Portsmouth; a sister, Audie Boone of Seaboard; three brothers, Joseph Roberts of Garysburg, Collie Roberts of Newark, N.J., and Charles Roberts of Philadelphia, Pa.; a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth, by Brother Harris. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake.. The family will assemble at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. The family will be at 1045 Washington Drive, Great Bridge Section, Chesapeake. WILLIAMSTON n Stanley Smallwood Jr., a native of Williamston, died February 28, 2005.

A funeral was conducted Saturday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel, Windsor, by the Rev. Kenneth Shepherd. Burial was in Spring Hill Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Andrea Salisbury Smallwood; a son, RaJah Q. Salisbury; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley and Roberta Smallwood Sr.; one brother, Antwan; and his grandmothers, Artis Riddick and Eula Powell Smallwood.
