AHOSKIE – Despite missing three seniors the Ridgecroft Lady Rams prevailed over rival Lawrence Academy 2-0 here Thursday afternoon.

Rams’ midfielder Hayes Bryant accounted for both goals on the afternoon with the first coming early in the match.

Bryant penetrated the Warriors defense and netted for the early 1-0 lead.

Bryant’s second goal came minutes later when the sophomore once again got behind the Warriors defense and shot a slow roller towards the opposite post for the 2-0 advantage.

Bryant, along with teammates Loftin Johnson and Whitney Pilson, made it clear from the beginning that they were intent on challenging the visiting goalkeeper.

Warrior goalie Jane Perry was up to the task.

Despite allowing two goals the Lawrence Academy sophomore time and time again thwarted Ridgecroft scoring attempts as she stopped an aggressive Rams offense that posted 27 shots on goal.

Perry had some help, mostly in the form of defensive teammates Rachael McCarthy and Katie Sellers.

Despite their tough defense however the Rams offensive pressure was simply too much too contain.

Pilson, the only Ram’s senior to play Thursday’s match, was pleased with the way her team responded to what she described as a disappointing opening game.

&uot;Our play was much better than last week&uot; said Pilson.

&uot;We came together and played as a team and it was evident in the way we both passed and defended.&uot;

Ridgecroft coach Becky Johnson was also pleased with the Rams performance.

&uot;We followed a match where we got only six shots on goal with a 27 shot performance&uot; said the coach.

&uot;The ladies did a great job of coming together and playing the team first style of soccer we expect.&uot;
