Chowan College split a pair of double headers this weekend.

The Braves’ softball squad split contests with both Piedmont College and Huntingdon College to move to 7-6 on the season.

Saturday afternoon saw Chowan grab a 3-2 win over the home-standing Piedmont squad.

Eryn Marshall, Kayla Meacom and Marianne Weir each had RBI’s to lead the Lady Braves to victory. Chowan rallied from a 2-0 deficit by scoring one run each in the third, sixth and eighth to grab the win.

Marshall and Weir led the way for the Braves as they each checked in at 2-for-3 on the day.

Meacom picked up the pitching win, going all eight innings while allowing only five hits and two runs, both of which were earned.

On Sunday, the Braves dropped a 9-4 decision to Piedmont.

Freshman Jennifer Day was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI while Melissa Buzzell was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Jessica Stauty suffered the loss.

Also on Sunday, the Braves split with Huntingdon when they won the first game 4-3 before suffering a 3-2 loss in the second contest.

In game one, the Braves plated three in the first inning and survived a late rally to win.

Day started the first with a homerun to centerfield before Huntingdon registered two outs.

The Braves weren’t finished, however, as Marshall drew a walk before Ashley Rountree reached on an error. Liz Marshall then ripped a triple to leftfield to plate both runners.

Huntingdon rallied for three in the sixth to tie the score, but Chowan scored on an RBI-single by E. Marshall that scored Buzzell.

Christina Eteuati led Chowan with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Day also registered two hits in four plate appearances. Picking up a single hit during the contest were E. Marshall, Rountree and L. Marshall.

Meacom (5-2) picked up the win for Chowan. She went the full eight innings, giving up six hits and striking out three.

In the second contest, Chowan surged to a 2-0 lead, but Huntingdon scored one run in the second, third and seventh innings to get the win.

Eteuati was 2-for-3 again to lead Chowan and had both RBIs.

Also picking up hits were Buzzell, E. Marshall, Weir and Meacom.

The result left the Lady Braves standing one game above .500 heading into Sunday’s 1 p.m. doubleheader against Elizabeth City State University.
