JACKSON – Two doors pried open and a rough description of a suspect is all that Northampton County Sheriff’s Office has to go in a break in that occurred on premises.

According to Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent, a telecommunications employee in the front office heard a suspicious noise at approximately 10:45 p.m. Sunday evening and noticed the exterior door had been broken into along with the office door belonging to Detective George Reid.

&uot;The doors are secured at a particular time and the only way into the office is by using a key,&uot; Vincent said, noting that no additional damage had been done.

Vincent said the suspect, who bears a vague description of a black male, approximately six feet tall with stocky build, was wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap.

Vincent said the employee saw the suspect briefly as he was exiting the building and called for help. Responding to the scene, officers Wallace Ransome and Corey Jackson secured the area until Vincent and other investigators arrived.

Not able to repair the doors that evening, Vincent assigned officers to stand guard and monitor them until county maintenance could come replace the doors.

&uot;It appears that the suspect used some kind of tool to pry his way into the building,&uot; Vincent said, &uot;But, so far as we can tell, nothing is missing from the office.&uot;

Vincent suspects the individual might have had an interest in a case the Sheriff’s Office was working on and attempted to obtain information by gaining entry to the building.

He also said investigating officers were able to secure some &uot;items of interest&uot; that may prove helpful in identifying the suspect.

Anyone with information about the break in is asked to report it either directly to the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office or to the newly formed Crimestoppers hotline if they wish to remain anonymous.
