Well, dear readers, those of us who study God’s word read of how the Israelite men could get rid of their wives for just about any reason (maybe she burned the lamb stew), and in fact, they could even have them stoned to death.

Consider this in today’s world; throughout last week, there were reports on proceedings where a Pinellas County, Fl. husband wants his wife starved and dehydrated long enough to kill her. If the Florida courts don’t deny the man’s request, that’s exactly what will happen.

I view it in the same light as those early Israelites because the Florida husband, Michael Schiavo, is petitioning the courts to allow him to have his wife legally killed. The wife, Terri, collapsed 15-years ago when a chemical imbalance brought on by an eating disorder caused her heart to stop beating. However, she has always been a purposefully interactive, alert, and curious young woman who lives with a serious disability.

She lives free of any life support machines and receives nutrition through a tube that is connected only at meal times.

Michael Schiavo has been fighting his wife’s parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, who want to take their daughter home to care for her. A judge, last week, set 1 p.m., March 18, for the tube to be removed.

Terri’s parents are asking another court to block the order from taking effect.

This 15-year battle reminds me of the old soap opera, &uot;The Edge of Night.&uot;

The Schiavo battle began as a fight over $1 million awarded to Terri Schiavo in a medical malpractice case, which her husband stood to inherit. Obviously, the longer Terri lives, the more of that insurance money is eaten away. Michael Schiavo has also been accused by his in-laws of having a conflict of interest in wanting his wife dead because he has started a new life with another woman and they have three children.

Regardless of all the facts in this case, Terri Schiavo is not brain dead and her heart continues to beat without help. Isn’t that proof that she is living? How can any judge anywhere in this world sentence her to death?

Which disabled person will we next kill? The person who uses a wheelchair? The person who has had a stroke and is confined to their bed? I’ll tell you this… I pray to God that this woman is allowed to live. What if I’m the next person who becomes disabled?

What if it were you?

Aside from the fact that it will take more than two weeks for her to starve to death, did you know that the Geneva Convention states that prisoners of war cannot be starved or deprived of water? Now think of all the Iraqi prisoners who committed the atrocities of Sept. 11, 2001, or those who commit other inhuman atrocities … We can’t even deprive them of a cup of water or morsel of bread!

The judge wrote that he was no longer comfortable granting delays in the long-running family feud. He said the case must end.

On that, I do agree! This insanity must end and Terri Schiavo should be allowed to live out her life as long as God wills it. Until the Supreme decision comes, Terri should continue to enjoy her life as much as possible.
