BHS ladies roll

WINDSOR – Bertie’s Lady Falcons began the Northeastern Coastal Conference tournament the way they ended the conference season.

The Lady Falcons hosted the Lady Redskins of Manteo in the one-versus-eight game and BHS rolled to a 72-27 victory.

Lady Falcons Skipper Alice Bennett said,&uot; The first two minutes of the game went bad as my girls started to play the way Manteo wanted to play, so I called time out and talked to them and the rest of the game they dictated the pace of the game.&uot;

In a game that was physical both teams were aggressive about the way they tried to take the ball away from the other team.

In the first period the Lady Falcons held Manteo to only five points while Lady Falcons Tierra Perry and Jessica Breland marched the ball down court to score with the help of Courtney Ransome, Ashley Speller, Lakeya Williams and Ashley Berryman, they ran out to an 18-5 lead to end the period.

Breland, Berryman, Speller and Perry started the second period of by rolling off 11 points for Bertie before Lauren Edwards and Kristen Dalton got off two shots to bring the score to 29-8.

Continuing to run the score up with 2:35 on the clock, Dalton went to shoot for Manteo but found out why you better know where Breland was as she blocked the shot with authority.

Breland then rolled off three unanswered shots to keep the Lady Falcons rolling.

Perry ended the half driving to the net the way she had done the entire night to make it 46-14 for Bertie.

The second half started with Lauren Horne and teammate Dalton making five points up for the Lady Redskins.

Quaniesha White stepped up for Bertie along with teammate Ransome as they scored six more points for Bertie.

Then Breland rolled off two more shots and when Lady Redskin Dalton thought it was safe to move the ball down court, Breland popped up and stole the ball and fed it to teammate Berryman who went to the net for two.

Breland ended the period with a hoop to run the score up to 60-20 for Bertie.

In the fourth period Breland, Perry, Ransome, and White continued to dominate in their house as they scored ten more points to end the game 72-27 Bertie.

The Lady Falcons played in the second round of the NCC tournament last night (Wednesday), but the game finished too late for press time.
