WINDSOR – What are the odds?

On Friday two athletes in the Roanoke-Chowan area reached milestones in their basketball.

Trey Denton of Bethel Assembly Christian Academy and Ashley Fountain of Ahoskie Christian School each scored their 1,000th career point.

When asked about the milestone Denton mildly commented, &uot;I didn’t really think about it until it was here and I’m happy I hit this mark. It feels good; now I look forward to 2000.&uot;

Joe Mizelle veteran skipper of the boy’s basketball team at Bethel, said, &uot;Trey was my third player to hit the 1,000-point mark and I’m proud of him and this has been a good experience for him and his career.&uot;

Mizelle went on to say, &uot;We played as a team, not just feed Trey the ball to hit this mark, so for that he should be proud of this accomplishment.&uot;

Denton, a junior at Bethel, with the rest of the basketball season ahead of him and his senior year next year should prove to be interesting to see where he takes his athletic ability to.

On the same Friday night another athlete, Ashley Fountain made her 1,000-point shot.

&uot;What are the odds in that happening?&uot; asked veteran Ahoskie Christian School girl’s mentor Jay Conn.

&uot;Ashley Fountain has worked hard playing basketball and developing her skills and if she continues, the sky’s the limit for her.&uot;

Both players received their game ball; Denton’s was presented to him Tuesday night before the game against the Ahoskie Warriors.

Denton was a second-team All-Roanoke-Chowan selection last season while Fountain made the first team as a freshman.

Both have the opportunity to reach higher career goals during this season and next.
