However, two media sources covering the game recorded the final score as 70-67.

The controversy over the score came with just over four minutes remaining in the game, and shifted the momentum from Manteo to Bertie.

The Falcons hit the scoreboard first and early in the first quarter held a 9-2 lead.

With the Redskins threatening to take the lead and Bertie clinging to a 55-54 lead (according to media sources), Manteo questioned the score when the scoreboard read 56-53.

After the referees consulted the official scorebook, the 56-53 score stood.

Feeding off the crowd’s momentum, Bertie pulled ahead 63-55.
