William N. Brown

HAMPTON, Va. n William Nowell Brown, 84, a Newport News, Virginia resident for over 50 years died Saturday, January 1, 2005.

Mr. Brown was a man that loved his family, his church, his farm and his tractors. He retired in 1970 from the Naval Weapons Station where he worked as an Ordnance Mechanic. He was a member of the Anglers Bible Class at Liberty Baptist Church where he was an active member. He was also a charter member of the Naval Weapons Retirees Club and a member of the Peninsula Ostomy Club.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Olivia Brown; his parents, Percy and Roberta Brown; two brothers, Harold S. Brown and Leonard Brown.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Bertha M. Brown; a daughter, Nell B. Moore and her husband, Maynard of Burlington, N.C.; a sister, Marie B. Carrithers of Newport News, Va.; two grandchildren, Brittany Moore of Burlington, NC and Jennifer S. Springer and her husband, David of Wilmington, NC; one great-grandson, Brantley S. Springer and special friends: Rick and Sandi Milton; and their son, Andy Milton, all of Suffolk, Va.

The family received friends Monday, January 3, 2005 from 6-7:30 p.m. at W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Newport News, Va.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Hunt officiating. Burial followed in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, Va.

William C. Smith

PINNACLE n Mr. William Carol Smith, 70, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at his home. He was born November 5, 1934 in Winton, NC to the late Joseph Lee Smith and Emma Eure Smith. Mr. Smith was employed at Microfibers of Winston-Salem for over 15 years as an industrial mechanic.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Lola W. Smith; a daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Thomas Jessup; two granddaughters, Trinity R. Jessup and Morgan A. Jessup; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Withy Smith of Tacoma, WA, and Lloyd and Betty Smith of Pendleton, NC; and one sister, Alice Taylor of Winton.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Charlie Debose, Joseph Smith, James Smith and Robert Smith and three sisters, Bertha Smith, Janie Jones and Lula Meyers.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Winton, NC.

The Smith family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home, Pilot Mountain, NC.

Gladys M. Morgan

SEABOARD n Gladys Mae Morgan, 84, a native of Northampton County, died January 6, 2005 at Hampton Woods Nursing Home, Jackson.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Galatia Baptist Church by the Rev. David Foster. Burial will be in the Barnes family cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Galatia Baptist Church. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, is in charge.

Miss Morgan was a member of Galatia Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sister, Hazel M. Harris of Conway; and several nieces and nephews.

Beatrice Fennell

AHOSKIE n Beatrice Dean Hoggard Fennell, 66, a native of Bertie County, died January 4, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral was conducted Friday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Woodland, by the Rev. John Grant. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, was in charge.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Fennell of Ahoskie; children, Courtland Hoggard of Garner and Sheila Hoggard of Murfreesboro; sisters and brothers, William B. Hoggard of Jackson, John M. Hoggard of Charlotte, Henry L. Hoggard of Kannolis, Ernest M. Hoggard of Wilson, Ada Freeman of Murfreesboro, Shirlene Eason of Woodland, Viola Farmer of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Helen Heckstall of Staunton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Cora B. Bond

COLERAIN n Cora Brown Bond, 57, a native of Bertie County, died January 6, 2005 at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Greater Wynn's Grove Baptist Church by Bishop Thomas E. Lee. Burial will be in the church cemetery, Colerain. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Mrs. Bond was a member of Greater Wynn's Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Clinton Bond Sr. of Ahoskie; two daughters, Marion Bond of Colerain and Patricia Raynor of Colerain; one brother, John Henry Brown Jr. of New Britain, Conn.; and 11 grandchildren.

Thelma F. Holloman

LEWISTON n Thelma Futrell Holloman, 49, died January 6, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mill Branch Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Ronald Taylor. Burial will be in the Wilder-Cherry Family Cemetery, Aulander. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., is in charge.

Mrs. Holloman was a homemaker and a member of Mill Branch Baptist Church.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. n Claudia Khietha Hall, 31, a native of Brooklyn, died December 31, 2004.

George W. Privott

HARRELLSVILLE n George Wesley Privott, died January 6, 2005 in Harrellsville.
