Bertie High ladies rout Edenton Aces

WINDSOR – Its bitterly cold outside but on Tuesday evening somebody turned the heat up at Bertie High School as the Lady Falcons hosted Edenton.

The Lady Falcons aced the Lady Aces as BHS won with a score of 82-20.

Bertie started things off as Anquisha Bell got the tip off to start Bertie’s drive to the net.

Laquetta Leary put Bertie on the board first shooting for two.

Bell followed up by stealing the ball and driving down court to give the Lady Falcons a 4-0 lead in the first minute of play.

This set the tone for what was to come.

The Lady Aces answered back as Megan Bass hit a trey to put Edenton on the board 4-3.

From there Bell fed the ball to Jessica Breland who got two shots off in a row to take the Lady Falcons to an 8-3 lead.

Tierra Perry then went to the net for Bertie for two only to have Kim Carter get to the net for two for Edenton to bring it to 10-5.

Lady Falcons Courtney Winbourne hit one of her two foul shots and teammate Ashley Berryman dug hard for two to end the first period 13-5.

The second quarter didn’t go much better for Edenton as the three Bs – Bell, Breland, and Berryman – marched the ball down court; Bell feeding the ball to Breland and Berryman who hit the mark and took Bertie up by 12.

Ashley Speller then went to work making a shot followed up by teammate Bell who drove in twice for two taking the Lady Falcons to a 22-5 lead.

Amanda Boyd then hit a 1-plus-1 to get the Lady Aces two points followed by teammate Laura Williams who hit one of her two shots to make it 22-8.

The Lady Falcons then rolled off three straight baskets by Quaniesha White, Winbourne, and Breland to give Bertie a 21-point lead.

Bell rounded the half out with a trey to give the Lady Falcons 32-10 lead to end the half.

The third went the same way as the Lady Falcons only allowed Edenton to score five points while Bertie’s Breland and Berryman went on a 15 point spree to run the score to 47-11.

Dana Rodgers and Leary along with Courtney Ransome finished the third scoring 10 more points to take Bertie to a 57-15 lead.

Berryman and Perry started the show as the two went to the net back to back.

Breland then rolled off four shots in a row moving the Lady Falcon further ahead with a 54-point lead.

Lakeya Williams along with teammates Speller, Berryman, and Rodgers finished the fourth out taking the Lady Falcons to an 82-20 victory over the Lady Aces.
