Warriors rout Colts

MERRY HILL – There was one thing hotter than an unseasonably warm January night here Thursday.

Lawrence Academy’s were just as warm as the nmight air, routing their guests from Elizabeth City by claiming a 52-17 win over the Albemarle Colts.

According to the first year skipper of the Warriors Robert Kravitz, &uot;We played pretty good defense and most importantly we are playing together as a team which is what I’ve been trying to get the boys to do.&uot;

As the bond between coach and players continues to grow they’re starting to see fruits of their labor.

Chad Simmons and fellow Warriors Joe Griesedieck and Andrew Barber started the first period off putting six points up in the first minute of the game.

Albemarle answer’s back fighting hard as Lawrence’s Judd Whitehead blocked the first attempt by Chase Carsey and he sinks the second shot to put the Colts on the board after three minutes of play.

Teammate J.R.Callison also went to the net for three taking the Colts to one point behind with a score of 6-5.

The Warriors rolled of three more shots at the net as Griesedieck, Barber, and Fuheem Amod hit there mark to make it 11-5.

After being fouled the Eagles Adam Winslow sinks his two free throws and goes to the net for two more before Lawrence’s Chad Simmons ends the period with a shot to make it 13-9.

Lawrence stepped it up defensively the second period holding the Colts to only three points as Simmons, Barber, and Whitehead continued to run the score up along with teammate Frank Baker to end the half 26-12.

The start of the second half saw Lawrence take the floor a little more aggressive as the duo of Simmons and Griesedieck ran up another 13 points while the duo along with Whitehead held the Eagles to only one point to end the third 39-13.

Andrew Krawyzck of the Warriors showed he could add something to the team also as he stepped up and hit a trey along with teammate Barber who hit one too.

The Warriors ended this game as Daniel Waters goes to net twice and makes one of his two free throws to end this game 52-17.

The Warriors don’t see action again until next Friday as they face the Ridgecroft Rams due to exams all next week.
