Doris R. Scott

ELIZABETH CITY – Doris Riddick Scott, 82, a native of Gates County, died December 12, 2004, at the Albemarle Hospital.

A funeral was conducted Tuesday in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, by the Rev. Roger Stanley. Burial was in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Scott was attended Berea Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Edward Scott of Elizabeth City; three daughters, Gloria T. Schnorr of Evans, Colo., Shirley T. Trueblood of Elizabeth City and Sheila T. Gray of Rocky Mount; a son, Deronda &uot;Ronnie&uot; Temple III of Elizabeth City; two sisters, Ida R. Waff of Greenville and Gladys R. Temple of Chesapeake; a brother, Ralph Riddick of Sanford; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Annie R. Wilson

WINDSOR – Annie Rebecca Wilson, 88, a native of Bertie County, died December 9, 2004.

A funeral was conducted Monday in St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. James R. Wrighton. Burial was in the church cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home was in charge.

She was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she was a choir member, Mother of the Church, pastor’s aide and deaconess.

Survivors include her sisters, Ruth Swain, Leomi Holley, Beulah Parker and Mattie Brockers; and brothers, Alexander, Daniel, Luke, James and John Thomas.

James Falkins Jr.

MURFREESBORO – James Falkins Jr., 63, died December 9, 2004, at his home.

His family in Murfreesboro conducted a memorial service Monday. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, was in charge.

Falkins was a disabled truck driver.

Survivors include two sons, James Falkins of Richmond, Va., and Johnnie Falkins of Lousia, Va.; a daughter; a sister, Marva Falkins of Keswick, Va.; and other family members Parker’s, Sharpe’s, Falkin’s and Hampton’.

Michael L. DeMasse

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Michael Leonard DeMasse, 31, died December 10, 2004, in Portsmouth.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the South Norfolk Church of Christ, 2526 Rodgers St., Chesapeake. Flowers are to be sent to 619 Elmhurst Lane, Portsmouth Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of the Cremation & Burial Society of Hampton Roads. Following the service, the family will receive friends at 619 Elm St., Portsmouth.

Survivors include his mother, Billie Roberson Spruill and husband Robert of Swoope, Va.; and his father, Joseph B. DeMasse of Merry Hill; his sister, Evelyn DeMasse; and his maternal grandparents, Grover C. and Betty Roberson.

Dinah C. Williford

AHOSKIE – Dinah Jean Cooke Williford, 69, of Ahoskie, NC, died surrounded by her family December 13, 2004, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Dinah was born April 5, 1935, in Aulander, NC. She was the daughter of the late John Richard &uot;Dick&uot; Cooke, Jr. and Maybelle Ward Cooke of Aulander. Dinah was a graduate of Wake Forest College, a retired school teacher and a devoted mother and wife. She was a member of the Ahoskie Women’s Club, the Ahoskie Book Club, First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, served on the Aulander Rescue Squad and Aulander Auxiliary for 21 years and was a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Foundation. For more than 20 years she traveled the world with her husband as he served in the armed forces, finally settling in the place of her birth.

She is survived by her husband, Charles J. Williford; a son, Charles &uot;Rick&uot; Williford; daughter, Lynne Williford Stalls and her husband Bill; and grandchildren, Cameron and Chip Williford.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie with the Reverend Dr. Jesse J. Croom Jr. presiding. Interment will follow in Aulander Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence.

Thomas J. Small Sr.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Bishop Thomas J. Small Sr., 89, a native of Windsor, died December 12, 2004, in Maryview Medical Center.

A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Healing Temple Pentecostal Church, Portsmouth, by Bishop J.R. Savage. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth chapel, is in charge. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Small was a retired pastor from Phillippi Church of God in Christ, Portsmouth, and was a member and bishop of United Pentecostal Churches of America.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma R. Small; six daughters, Mildred Small and Phenetha Wolf, both of Portsmouth, Pastor DeBorah Allen of Accokeek, Md., Ruth Harvey of San Diego, Calif., Annette R. Jones of New Jersey and Mae Bell Ahmed of Dallas, Texas; three sons, William Small of Chesapeake, Bishop Thomas E. Small of Fort Washington, Md. and Bernard Small of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Gertrude Bowser of Suffolk and Bernice Smith of Temple Hill, Md.; two brothers, Lonnie Small and George Small, both of Portsmouth; 38 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Healing Temple Pentecostal Church, Portsmouth, by Bishop J.R. Savage. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth chapel, is in charge. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Wilma Williams

AHOSKIE – Wilma Williams, died December 14, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Amelia D. Earley

COFIELD – Amelia Delois Earley, died December 13, 2004 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Philippi Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Earley was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, George Earley of Cofield; one son, Reginald Earley of Newport News, Va.; two daughters, Joan E. Watford of Cofield and Lorraine E. Brooks of Durham; two brothers, James Vann of Suffolk and John Vann of Hampton; five sisters, Barbara Boone of Cofield, Vivian Davis, Maurice Vann and Bertha Vann, all of Ahoskie and Vannessa Anthony of Hampton; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.
