Shotgun theft nets arrest

WINTON – A Harrellsville man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing a firearm.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan reported that James Kenron Banks, 23, of 340 Quebec Road, Harrellsville, was placed in the Hertford County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond after being charged in the incident.

Banks faces charges of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny of a firearm.

Banks made his first court appearance yesterday (Friday).

The incident took place at 8:37 p.m. on Dec. 10 in the parking lot of the Tar Landing Grill, 106 East Main Street, Harrellsville. There, Banks allegedly stole a Remington 1100 shotgun from a truck owned by David Christopher Klemt of Maple, NC. The shotgun was removed from a gun rack located inside the truck.

Vaughan reported that an ensuing investigation, headed by HCSO Captain Tim Lassiter and HCSO Deputy Brian Pierce, led to Banks’ arrest.
