ASKEWVILLE – It will be two days of fun and quality basketball.

The Bethel Tip-off Tournament will begin at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon and will continue until two champions are crowned.

Four schools will enter both their varsity boys and varsity girls into the 12th annual tournament. Host Bethel Christian Academy will welcome Gramercy Christian School, Victory Christian School and James River Christian Academy.

&uot;Most of the games in this tournament you could almost flip a coin unless someone has an off night,&uot; Bethel boys coach Joe Mizelle, the tournament director, said. &uot;I am expecting this to be one of the most highly contested tournaments we’ve had.&uot;

The games will start at 4 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) when Gramercy Christian’s girls square off against the James River girls. That afternoon contest will be followed by the second girls’ semifinal when host Bethel welcomes Victory Christian at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Eagles, under first-year coach Buddy Denton, are led by junior Kayla Overton along with sophomores Kelly Hoggard and Mindy Miller.

Junior Sarah Van DeWalker and senior Amanda Cook lead Victory Christian.

The varsity boy’s games begin at 7 p.m. when defending champion Victory Christian takes on Gramercy.

Victory’s top players are senior Chris McGronan and sophomore David Cratty while the Warriors have four seniors on their roster including Rasheed Brown, Jarrod Covington, Matt Pollock and Michael Grodziechi.

&uot;These are four of the best teams we could find in our area,&uot; Mizelle insisted. &uot;It doesn’t get much better than this. Especially in the boys bracket, where all four teams are solid.&uot;

In the nightcap Friday, the host Eagles will matchup with James River. Bethel is led by senior Trey Denton while James River has three seniors in Caleb Acree, Jonathan McClelland and John Mason.

Saturday’s action starts at 11 a.m. with the girl’s consolation game. The boy’s consolation game will follow at 12:30 p.m.

The championship games will begin at 2 p.m. with the girl’s contest and the boys championship will begin at 3:30 p.m.

A ceremony honoring the champions and All-Tournament Team will follow.

The Eagles are offering a variety of options to those wanting to attend the tournament.

A one-day pass for the tournament will be $8 (adult) and $6 (student) while a tournament pass will be $15 for an adult and $10 for students.

A family pass will also be available for $12 per day or $18 for the entire tournament.

Game tickets will be $4 for adults and $2 for students.
