WINTON – A 41-year-old Ahoskie man faces sex crimes against a juvenile.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan said Willie McArthur Bass, of 139 NC 11, Ahoskie was arrested Saturday afternoon.

He has been charged with felony child abuse and one count of sexual act upon a child.

Vaughan would not elaborate on the charges or the case, but did say Bass is currently being held in the Hertford County Jail under a $35,000 secured bond.

&uot;Deputy Steve Ashe did an very professional job investigating this case,&uot; said Vaughan. &uot;Such crimes are very delicate and hard to deal with, and Deputy Ashe displayed a line of confidence in handing the interview process and with making the arrest.&uot;

Vaughan said the arrest took place around 1 p.m. Saturday at the defendant’s home.
