MERRY HILL – Lauren Harrison scored more than half of the points tossed in by Bear Grass here Friday night as the Lady Bears defeated Lawrence Academy in overtime.

The Lady Bears won 46-40, thanks in large part to a 25-point performance from Harrison and a 19-point effort from Lindsay Shaw.

Trailing 4-2 in the early going, Lawrence hit 13 of the next 16 points to grab a 15-7 advantage. Jodi White started the spurt with a hoop followed by a Kate Gillam bucket and a trey from the hands of Laurel Taylor.

Shaw briefly interrupted the streak with a triple of her own, but the Lady Warriors has back-to-back three-pointers from senior Catherine Outten and another from Taylor.

The Lawrence ladies maintained that advantage until midway through the third quarter when a 13-0 run paced the Lady Bears back into the lead.

Shaw was the catalyst for the run, as she had seven consecutive to trim the lead to 28-25. Harrison then had back-to-back hoops and a pair of free throws to give Bear Grass a 31-28 lead.

Jane Perry’s hoop as the third quarter ended helped Lawrence deadlock the contest at 34-all.

The fourth quarter was quiet for both teams as they combined for 12 points.

Bear Grass had back-to-back free throws by Shaw followed by a Harrison bucket to grab a 38-34 lead. The advantage went to 40-36 when Shaw hit a pair of shots from the charity stripe.

Lawrence deadlocked the score at 40-all when White hit a bucket at the 55-second mark and Jessica Johnston scored with 10 seconds to play.

Overtime wasn’t kind to Lawrence, however, as the Lady Bears used hoops from Shaw and Harrison to ice the game and win 46-40.

The Warriors also suffered a setback during Friday’s contest as Bear Grass rallied from a one-point deficit with two and a half minutest to play and won 56-52.

Leading by one as the fourth period started, Joe Griesedieck hit a hoop to push the Lawrence advantage to 39-36, but Kevin Harris answered for Bear Grass.

A trey by Judd Whitehead and a free throw from Andrew Barber, the Warriors’ leading scorer with 17 points, pushed the Lawrence lead to 43-38 with seven minutest to play in the contest.

Bear Grass answered, however, with an 8-0 run that helped them surge to a 46-43 lead.

Harris had four points during the stretch while Brock Harrison added three and Richard Williams had one.

Griesedieck rallied the Warriors into the lead with a hoop and a pair of free throws that gave Lawrence a 49-48 advantage.

The Bears, however, used hoops from Williams and D.J. Jones and a pair of Williams’ free throws to lead 54-49.

Griesedieck hit a triple with 17 seconds to play to cut the lead to 54-52, but Harrison and Jones hit shots from the charity stripe to seal the Bear Grass win.

&uot;We played better tonight than we have lately,&uot; rookie Lawrence skipper Robert Kravitz said. &uot;We are playing team basketball, but this game we got into foul trouble which hurt us.

&uot;I was proud of their effort,&uot; he continued. &uot;We never gave up.&uot;
