Earl B. Chitty

AHOSKIE – Earl Burkett Chitty, 88, a native of Hertford County, died November 19, 2004 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

A graveside service was conducted on Monday in Highland Memorial Gardens by with the Rev. Dr. Jesse J. Croom. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, was in charge. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Chitty and was a member of Menola Baptist Church and Byrd Hunting Club.

He was retired as service manager for Charles H. Jenkins Co.

Survivors include his daughter, Joyce C. Harrell of Greensboro; a brother,

Zeb Chitty of Ahoskie; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Larry G. Futrell

PLYMOUTH – Larry G. Futrell, 65, a native of Northampton County, died November 18, 2004 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Plymouth First Christian Church by the Rev. Richard Flowers, the Rev. Al Stuck and the Rev. James Owens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Futrell’s memory to the Memorial Fund of the Plymouth First Christian Church. Horner-Walker Funeral Home, Plymouth, was in charge.

Futrell was a retired utility mechanic for the Weyerhaeuser Paper Company with 36 years service. He was a member of Plymouth First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Waters Futrell; his son, Ashley Gable Futrell of Jamesville; a daughter, Rena F. Davenport of Wilmington; a brother, Halstead Futrell of Granbury, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

Maggie V. Pope

ROCKY MOUNT – Maggie Vick Pope, 79, died November 20, 2004.

Graveside services will be private. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson.

Willie Stevenson Jr.

ROCKY MOUNT – Willie Curtis Stevenson Jr., 28, died November 14, 2004, at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

A graveside service was conducted Monday at Marks Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Rocky Mount, by the Rev. Doris Lindsey. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, was in charge.

William Blackmond Jr.

WINTON – William F. Blackmond Jr., 73, a native of Currituck County, died November 20, 2004 at his residence.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Haven Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Manteo by Dr. Leon Credle. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include his children, William Blackmond III of Ahoskie, Arnold Blackmond of Manteo and Emma Jane Berry of Manteo; one sister, Lola Westbrook of Tyler, Texas; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Beatrice Futrell

AHOSKIE – Beatrice Futrell, died November 21, 2004, at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

Helen R. Johnson

SUNBURY – Helen R. Johnson, 88, died November 21, 2004, at Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.

James A. Bryant

RICH SQUARE – James Anthony &uot;Joe Baines&uot; Bryant, 65, a native of Northampton County, died November 19, 2004 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Rex Edwards. Burial will be in the family cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Bryant was a laborer.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Moore Bryant of the home; three daughters, Pamela R. Smith of Centerville, Va., Jacqueeca Horton and Lacquita Horton, both of Rich Square; and five grandchildren.

Laura B. Evans

INDIAN TRAIL – Laura Barham Evans, 102, a native of Isle of Wight, Va., died November 21, 2004 at Union Regional Medical Center. She was the widow of Walter Jennings Evans.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Evans-Connor family cemetery, Rich Square. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to The Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565 or First Baptist Church, 109 Morrow Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Emma R. Mitchell

POWELLSVILLE – Emma Ramsey Mitchell, died November 21, 2004 at Britthaven of Edenton.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Ahoskie.

She is survived by one brother, Herbert &uot;Rock&uot; Ramsey of Philadelphia, Pa.

Katherine Shores

AULANDER – Katherine Lassiter Shores, 79, died November 21, 2004 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Revs. Raymond Potter and Lotus Joyner. Burial will be in Jobe Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.

Mrs. Shores was a member of Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she served as secretary and treasurer of Sunday School, she also taught Sunday school for a number of years. She was retired with Planters Peanuts and was confirmed as the oldest Cystic Fibrosis patient in the United States.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Irving Shores; one son, Donnie E. Shores of Aulander; one daughter, Donna Marie Woodford of Warren, OH; one brother, James W. Lassiter of Aulander; sisters, Irma Hurdle of Aulander, Ethel Lassiter of Chesapeake, Va., and Clara Shores of Aulander; and four grandchildren.

Julian M. Jenkins

CONWAY – Mr. Julian Martin Jenkins, age 78, of Buck Boone Rd., Conway, NC, died November 20, 2004 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC.

Mr. Jenkins was born Sept. 20, 1926 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Johnny Mills Jenkins and Mamie Martin Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Jenkins, his sisters, Edith J. Jones and Helen J. Gilmore and a brother, William Jenkins.

Mr. Jenkins was a member of Creeksville Baptist Church, a charter member of the Milwaukee Lions Club and a member of the Murfreesboro Lions Club. He was retired from the NC Dept. of Correction and was a salesman for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Frances B. Jenkins; his daughter, Trudy J. Mountford of Seaboard, NC; his sons, Joseph Jenkins of Milwaukee, NC, Charles Jenkins of Hurricane, West Virginia, Marty Jenkins and Keith Jenkins, both of Milwaukee, NC; five grandsons, Jason Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins, Christopher Buffaloe, Chase Mountford and Ray Jenkins; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Lynn Jenkins.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Creeksville Baptist Church with Dr. Brian Detrick and the Rev. Arnold Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Milwaukee Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Tuesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.

Margaret A. Holland

POWELLSVILLE – Margaret Ann Holland, 71, a native of Ashland, W.Va., died November 22, 2004 at her residence. She was the widow of the late William E. Holland of Conway.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2004 at the Carpenter’s Shop Church, Ahoskie, by Pastor Wallace Phillips. Burial will be in Conway Cemetery, Conway. Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice and husband, Dana Goodman of Powellsville, Lisa Burke of Conway; two sons, Thomas Lee and wife, Pam Shelton of Cherry Log, Ga., and Allen Eugene and wife, Judy Shelton of Stoneville, NC; two brothers, Jimmy Coleman and Roy Coleman, both of Martinsville, Va.; a sister, Jean Coleman of Martinsville, Va.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
