Lady Eagles win

LASKER – Sophomore LeAnn Barnes scored in the eighth inning to give Northeast Academy a 6-5 victory over visiting Terra Ceia Christian School in Monday afternoon’s contest.

The Lady Eagles took a 2-0 lead after left fielder Lori Coggins and second baseman Kathryn Bryant plated in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Northeast added one run in the fifth as Callie Burgess crossed home.

Terra Ceia brought home one runner in the sixth and added four runs in the seventh to take a 5-3 advantage.

With the game on the line, Burgess slammed the ball to center field. Senior Lindsey Bridgers followed with another hit to center. Both runners came home to tie the score at five all.

With one out, Bryant’s hit got past the shortstop for a single.

Meghan Bridgers bat put the ball in the same spot and left two runners on base.

Following a second Northeast out, Ashley Ricks hit up the second base line to leave the bases loaded. The Lady Eagles were unable to bring Bryant home and retired the inning with the bases loaded and score tied.

Barnes connected with Burgess at first base to get the first Lady Knights out in extra innings. The next batter hit to left field for the base hit.

Pitcher Jessica Duncan struck out the third batter.

With two outs the Lady Knights got another runner on base but Duncan connected with Burgess for the final out, holding the Lady Knights scoreless.

Barnes was walked to start the bottom of the eighth.

With two Lady Eagles outs, Coggins hit the ball into right field, bringing home the winning run.

Bryant was 3-for-4 from the plate while Bridgers and Coggins hit 3-for-5.

Duncan struck out nine in the win.
