Melton T. Stancel

NORFOLK, Va. – Melton Thomas &uot;Buck&uot; Stancel, 53, a native of Murfreesboro, died November 8, 2004.

A funeral was conducted Friday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service by Elder Melvin R. Munden Jr. Interment was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk.

Stancel was a laborer in the construction industry.

Survivors include five daughters, Shinda Chatman of Hampton, Shavone Boughton of Virginia Beach, Love Stancel White of Hampton, Ayesha Wiggins, U.S. Army, Baghdad, Iraq and Talina Wiggins of Norfolk; one son, Durrell Wiggins of Norfolk; his mother, Sallie M. Stancel of Norfolk; seven sisters; and four grandchildren.

William O. Mizelle Sr.

SUFFOLK, Va. – William Otha Mizelle Sr., 84, a native of Harrellsville, died November 9, 2004.

A funeral was conducted Friday in Reynoldson Baptist Church by the Revs. Keith Trull and Billy Presley. Burial was in Southampton Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made to the Reynoldson Baptist Church Youth Organization at Rural Route 2, Gates, NC 27937. Parr Funeral Home was in charge.

Mizelle was a farmer and a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Ann Cale Mizelle; a daughter, Janet M. Vick of Suffolk; three sons, William O. Mizelle Jr. of Millageville, Ga., James Anderson Mizelle and Henry Cale Mizelle, both of Suffolk; two sisters, Lucille Perry and Wilma Sirene; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Devin S. Leary

HEXALENA – Devin Shamar Leary, infant son of Kevin and Angela Leary, died November 9, 2004 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Devin was a native of Hertford County.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at True Way Holiness Church, Windsor. Burial will be in the Leary family cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Surviving other than his parents are one brother, Kendrick Leary of the home; paternal grandparents, James and Byran Basnight of Hexalena and Tommie Askew of Middletown, Conn.; maternal grandfather, Robert Lewis Holley of Newport News, Va.; paternal great-grandfather, Sherman Leary of Colerain; and maternal great-grandparents, Clarence Ray and Sadie White of Colerain.

Elizabeth Bullock

SEABOARD – Elizabeth B. Bullock, 95, died November 9, 2004.

A funeral was conducted Friday at Seaboard United Methodist Church. Burial was in Seaboard Cemetery. Hockaday Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, was in charge.

Dolly F. Grant

NORFOLK, Va. – Dolly Futrell Grant, a native of Rich Square, died November 10, 2004 in a local hospital. She was the widow of Columbus Grant.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Metropolitan AME Zion Church, Springfield Avenue and Campostella Road, by the Rev. Kenneth Crowder. Interment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hale Funeral Home.

Mrs. Grant was a faithful member of Metropolitan AME Zion Church. She was an active member serving as an usher on Usher Board No. 2 and on the Stewardess Board and also served as a deaconess.

Survivors two daughters, Mary Williams of Landover, Md. and Shirley Sudderth of Virginia Beach; three sons, Robert Grant of Landham, Md., Milliard Grant of Landover and Columbus Grant Jr. of Norfolk; a brother, Robert Futrell of Piscataway, N.J.; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Derrick Robinson

SCOTLAND NECK – Derrick E. Robinson, 40, died November 11, 2004.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh Baptist Church by the Rev. Hoyt Cooper. Burial will be in Staton Memorial Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. and a wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Lionel Whidbee Funeral Home.

Coma Burke

AHOSKIE – Coma Burke, died November 10, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church by the Rev. Bernard C. Williams. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Ahoskie. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include two sons, Patrick Gatling of Murfreesboro and King Soloman Gatling of Raleigh; three daughters, Effie Davis of Ahoskie, Augustine Gatling Lampley of Trum Bull, Conn., and Marietta Smith of Hampton, Va.; two brothers, Arthur Porter of Aulander and Dante Porter of Hampton; six sisters, Marie Gatling of Ahoskie, Clara Ruffin, Lucy Ann Burke and Nevonza Porter, all of Wilmington, Del., Hattie Parker of Como and Girlie Jenkins of Hampton; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Gary F. Warren

JACKSON – Mr. Gary Finton Warren, age 52, of Jackson, NC, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

Mr. Warren was born April 17, 1952 in Halifax County, NC. He attended Chowan College and NC State University. He was account supervisor for Severn Peanut Company, Severn, NC and account supervisor for Potales Select Peanut Co, Potales, New Mexico. He was treasurer and board member of Valley Pine Recreation Association and an avid golfer. He was predeceased in death by his father, Finton Travis Warren. He was a loving husband, father and son.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Johnson Warren; his mother, Jean Davis Warren of Murfreesboro, NC; his children, Benjamin David Warren and his wife, Camille Jackson Warren of Raleigh, NC, Jennifer Gay Warren and Katherine Jean Warren, both of Wilmington, NC, Margaret Lynn Warren and Christen Alexander Warren, both of Durham, NC; his stepdaughter, Charity Elizabeth Gay Morris and her husband, Jason Scott Morris of Raleigh, NC; his brothers, Donald Keith Warren and his wife, Cheryl Harrup Warren and George Thomas Warren and his wife, Teresa Flythe Warren, all of Murfreesboro; his sisters, Patricia Lynn Warren of Winston-Salem, NC; his father and mother-in-law, Glenn and Margaret Johnson of Murfreesboro, NC; and six nieces and nephews, Amanda Leigh Warren, Matthew Scott Warren, Megan Elizabeth Warren, Allison Lynn Warren, Andrea Leigh Warren and Travis Bryan Warren.

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, NC with the Rev. Billy Sellers and the Rev. David Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Friday from 7 until 9 p.m.
