AULANDER – A 27-year-old Aulander man has been arrested and charged with felony hit and run following an incident in the parking lot of the Friendly Food Mart here.

Aulander Police Chief Jimmy Barmer said Bioyshawn Holloman was arrested in Ahoskie by Ahoskie officers following the alleged hit and run.

&uot;We received a dispatch around 12:30 Saturday afternoon that an elderly man had been hit,&uot; Barmer said. &uot;We were also notified that the driver of the vehicle believed to be involved had left the scene.&uot;

After talking to witnesses at the scene and the victim, Tom Gatling, 71, of Aulander, Barmer put out an all points bulletin on the vehicle.

Because one witness was able to provide a vehicle tag number, Barmer was able to find out to whom the vehicle was registered.

&uot;Ahoskie picked up the dispatch for the be-on-the-lookout,&uot; Barmer said. &uot;Within a few minutes Sgt. B. Knowles of the Ahoskie Police Department stopped the vehicle, operated by [Holloman].&uot;

Sgt. Knowles arrested Holloman for driving while license were revoked and he was transferred to the Hertford County Jail in Winton where he was placed under a $1,200 bond with additional charges pending.

Barmer then had warrants drawn up for Holloman on felony hit and run and they were served by the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office.

Holloman ended up with a bond set at $27,200 and remained in Hertford County Jail as of Monday morning.

Gatling was transported to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie by the Lewiston-Woodville Rescue Squad, where he was treated and released.

&uot;This is another great example of the cooperation between the departments in this area,&uot; Barmer said. &uot;Even though there is a county line between us, Ahoskie and Hertford County worked with me on this situation as they would have for themselves.

&uot;This is why we have someone behind bars this morning for this crime,&uot; he added. &uot;They could have easily have shrugged this off as being Bertie County’s problem or the town of Aulander’s problem, but because of the dedication and willingness to work together, it was a great show of teamwork.&uot;

He concluded, &uot;I would like to thank the officers involved for their assistance and also would like to express my appreciation to both the Ahoskie Police Department and Hertford County Sheriff’s Office for the work that was done.&uot;
