AHOSKIE – Deacon LeeAndrew Roosevelt Faison, 79, a native of Northampton County, died October 21, 2004 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Soul Saving Station, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Charles Faison. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Faison was the founder and owner of East End Plumbing of Ahoskie. He was a member, deacon and Bible Band of East End Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Deans Faison of the home; six sons, Rev. J.C. Faison of Houston, Texas, Rev. Robert Earl &uot;Roy&uot; Faison of Powellsville, Rev. Charles Wayne Faison of Siler City, Kent Andrew Faison of Ahoskie, David Barry Faison of Windsor and Tony Ivan Faison of Pendleton; six daughters, Virginia Louise Bonds of Ahoskie, Betty Lorraine Freeman of Powellsville, Shirley Ann Harris, Evangelist Peggy Jean Anthony and Brenda Kay Vaughan, all of Ahoskie and Evangelist Cassandra Anthony of Hampton, Va.; two brothers, Lynnberg Faison of Brooklyn, N.Y and Robert Gene Faison of Portsmouth; two sisters, Alma Artis of Chesapeake and Thelma Wallace of Portsmouth; 47 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.

Harvey E. Ward Sr.

RICH SQUARE – Harvey E. Ward Sr., 85, a native of Northampton County, died October 21, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Branches Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnny Williams. Burial was in the Ward family cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, was in charge.

Ward was a retired forklift operator for Georgia Pacific. He was a member of Branches Chapel Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Mae Ward of Rich Square; seven sons, Curtis Leon Ward of Jupiter, FL, Harvey Ward Jr. of Cliffwood, NJ, Purnell Ward of Chicago, William Earl Ward of Scotch Plains, Howard Lewis Ward of Kelford, Randolph Ward of Rich Square and Bernard Ward of Visalia, CA; five daughters, Doris Mabry of Portsmouth, Va., Beaulah Hailey of Cliffwood Beach, Gloria Harlow of Newark, Joyce Ellison of Neptune and Flora Marshall of Neptune; one brother, Walter Ward of Rich Square; three sisters, Gwendolyn Dawn of Newport News, Ruby Godwin of Passiac and Margaret Battle of Rocky Mount; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Charlie E. Bunch

WINDSOR – Charlie Edward Bunch, a native of Windsor, died October 18, 2004.

A funeral was conducted Saturday at St. James Church of Christ Disciples of Christ by the Rev. Ricky Clemmons. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, was in charge.

Survivors include two sisters, Fannie Bunch of Windsor and Sarah Elias of Atlantic City, N.J.

WINDSOR – Donnie &uot;Dee Jay&uot; Jenkins Jr., died October 16, 2004.

James F. Duke

SUMTER -James Floyd Duke, 81, a native of Northampton County, died Sunday, October 24, 2004, at his home.

A funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Shaw Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Victor Cheek. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Duke was a member of Shaw Heights Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Air Force. Duke of Sumter; a sister, Mary Shell Duke of Rich Square; a brother, Ryland S. Duke of Raleigh; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

William P. Eure

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – William Pollard Eure, 79, a native of Gates County, died October 23, 2004, in Norfolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eure Christian Church, Gatesville, by the Rev. Wayne Gardener. Interment will be in the Eure Christian Church Cemetery. Eure was retired from the Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Board. He was a member of Eure Christian Church in Eure, N.C. He was also a member of the Grassfield Ruritan Club, Gates County Hunt Club and the White Oat Hunt Club.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Doughtie Eure of Chesapeake; his daughter, Marie Eure Beliles of Chesapeake; his son, Arthur Riddick Eure of Portsmouth; three sisters, Bessie Mae Butt, Sally Johnson and Ann Terrell; a brother, Jimmy Eure; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Waverly L. Askew

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Waverly Lee Askew, 89, a native of Milwaukee, died October 23, 2004, in his residence. He was the widower of Mamie Vinson Askew.

A funeral was conducted Monday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Dr. Billy Baugham. Burial was in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

Askew was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church and retired from the Naval Transmitter Station, Driver.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan J. Askew of Portsmouth; a sister; two grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.

William Hurdle

AHOSKIE – William Hurdle, 81, of the 500 block of Mitchell St., died October 25, 2004, in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Mr. Hurdle was a native of Hertford County, N.C., a member of Brantley’s Grove Baptist Church, and a retired supervisor for Hertford County Landfill. He was a Founding Member of the Ahoskie Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Lassiter Hurdle; one son, Jimmy Hurdle of Aulander, NC; two brothers, Henry Hurdle and Kenneth Hurdle, both of Aulander, NC; one grandchild; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren. He is also predeceased by one grandson, Timothy Keith Hurdle.

Funeral services will be held at Garrett Funeral Home at 3:30 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Ward and the Rev. L.C. Joyner officiating. Burial will follow in Job Cemetery with Fireman’s Honors.

The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

AHOSKIE – William Smith, died October 25, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Milton Daughtry

AHOSKIE – Milton Daughtry, died October 23, 2004.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Melvin Moore. Burial will be in the Daughtry family cemetery, Aulander.

He is survived by one sister, Avis Powell of Aulander.

Johnnie Weaver

HARLEM, NY – Johnnie Weaver, a native of Powells-ville, died October 23, 2004 at NY Presbyterian Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Har-lem. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, supplied information.

Weaver was a member of New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Weaver of Harlem; one son, Johnnie Weaver Jr. of Harlem; four daughters, Yvonne, Lessie, Carolyn and Bernadette; one brother, Donnell Weaver of Harlem; two sisters, Helen Howell of New Jersey and Marion Weaver of New York; and 17 grandchildren.
