Donnie Jenkins Jr.

WINDSOR – Donnie Jenkins Jr., 26, died October 16, 2004.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Bazemore Temple, Windsor. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Thomas D. Byrum

CHARLOTTE – Thomas D. Byrum, 54, a native of Ahoskie, died October 13, 2004.

A memorial service was conducted October 15, 2004 at Harry and Bryant &uot;Chapel in the Oaks&uot;, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.

Byrum was a well-known architect in Charlotte for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife, Debrah Byrum; his children, Tiffany Huber of Charlotte, and Nicole Dison of Lake Norman; brothers, Johnnie, Robert and Earl Byrum; sisters, Nancy Pierce, Myrtle Hollowell, Susan Lewis, Margaret Gray, Rhonda Early and Betty Byrum; and three grandchildren.

William B. Spivey

RICH SQUARE – Mr. William Bryant Spivey, age 79, of Rehoboth Community, Braswell Road, Rich Square, NC, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004 in his home.

Mr. Spivey owner of Farm City, Inc. in Roanoke Rapids. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Braswell Spivey; his children, Deborah A. Hudson of Richmond, Va., W. Michael Spivey of Rocky Mount, NC, Christopher R. Spivey of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Peggy L. Gargis of Greenville, NC; his brother, R.J. Spivey of Carthage, NC; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Rehoboth United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Lee officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square, NC.

The family received friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC Tuesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church.

Thelma P. Moore

HARRELLSVILLE – Thelma Perry Moore, 54, a native of Hertford County, died October 17, 2004 in Raleigh.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at New Holley Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Tony Flood. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Moore was employed with Newport News Shipyard and a member of New Holley Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Natalie Moore and Melba Moore of Raleigh; two brothers, David Perry of Durham and Daniel Roy Perry Jr. of Colerain; and four sisters, Judy Simmons and Brenda White, both of Chesapeake, Va., Faye Stinson of Raleigh and Ann Wilson of Colerain.

Cora B. Tann

MURFREESBORO – Cora Bell Tann, 89, a native of Hertford County, died October 17, 2004, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at New Haven Baptist Church by the Rev. Lloyd Gatling. Burial will be in Carver Park Cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, is in charge.

Mrs. Tann was a retired basket weaver from Georgia Pacific and a member of New Haven Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, John Henry Tann of Pleasant Hill; one daughter, Lillie Beale of Murfreesboro; and two grandchildren.

Sue Lee East

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Sue Lee East, 82, a native of Portsmouth, died October 19, 2004. She was the widow of George Washington East Sr.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. chapel, by the Rev. Frank Carter. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Mrs. East was a cashier for Portsmouth Public Schools and a member of First Friends Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty E. Johnson of Sunbury and Gloria E. Deal of Clearwater, Fla.; a son, George W. East Jr. of Pittsboro; three sisters, Betty Harrell, Edith Ziegenhain and Jean Ann Jones; a brother, James Ziegenhain, all of Portsmouth; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Catherine Clark

KELFORD – Catherine Clark, 74, a native of Bertie County, died October 15, 2004.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wilder’s Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander, by the Rev. Kevin Earl Callarr. Burial will be in the Jenkins family cemetery, Lewiston.

Mrs. Clark was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Clark and Clyde Clark Jr., both of Kelford; six daughters, Betty Clark of the home, Ethel Clark of Kelford, Cynthia Watford of Aulander, Wilma Pittman of Tarboro, June Jones of Apex and Mary Ann Mills of Louisiana; one stepson, Frank Clark Jr. of New Jersey; two brothers, George Jenkins of Lewiston and Ed Eaton of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Sydney Jones of Lewiston and Music Holley of Ahoskie; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Sylvia J. Sessoms

AHOSKIE – Sylvia Josephine Sessoms, died October 19, 2004 at Martin General Hospital, Williamston.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Newsome Grove Baptist Church, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Larry Riddick. Burial will be in the Moore family cemetery, Hertford County. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include three sons, Horace Sessoms of Newport, NC, Tony and David Sessoms, both of Colerain; one daughter, Freida Sessoms of Asbury Park; one sister, Beverly Friend of New York; 32 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Wilbert Early Sr.

ROXOBEL – Wilbert Early Sr., 78, a native of Bertie County, died October 18, 2004, at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Aulander First Baptist Church by the Rev. Wilbert Early Jr. Burial will be in church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Early was a member of Aulander First Baptist Church and a retired mechanic.

Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Wilbert Early Jr. of Gloucester, Va., and Gilbert Early of Ahoskie; four daughters, Jackie Early of Fayetteville, Ga., Gloria Payne of Garner, Ivy Early of Raleigh and Lucille Hukins of Huntersville; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
