AHOSKIE – With the clock winding down on regular season play, Ridgecroft’s varsity men’s soccer team scored twice in the final three minutes to take a dramatic 2-1 victory over Faith Christian here Tuesday afternoon.

&uot;This was the last regular season home game so it meant something to us,&uot; said senior Will Jones.

&uot;It’s the next step to the state championship,&uot; added senior Wes Ward.

With Faith Christian holding a 1-0 advantage, the Rams had several missed scoring opportunities before senior Harrison Revelle tied the score at one-all with just under three minutes left in regulation.

The scored revitalized the Rams, and they found the net again with 1:49 left in play as Jones’ shot from the right side hit the left corner of the net to give Ridgecroft the 2-1 lead.

Faith Christian still had some fight left, setting up a corner kick with 39 seconds left in play.

The kick curved out of bounds and with the clock running down. Ridgecroft keeper Ian Kinlaw took the goalie kick, putting the ball back into Faith Christian territory.

A Patriot penalty set up a Gus McLean penalty kick, which he sent to the right side of the goal as time expired and the Rams began to celebrate their 2-1 victory.

&uot;We came together in the last part of the second half and played like a team,&uot; said Jones.

Added Revelle, whose score revived the Rams, &uot;We pulled it together and once we knew we could get it in the net we kept pushing the ball.&uot;

&uot;They came out with something to prove,&uot; said Rams head coach Patrick Sensiba.

&uot;Faith Christian lost to Greenfield the other night and they were saying this would be an easy win.&uot;

&uot;I think we’re guaranteed a number three ranking in the state and can make an argument for number two,&uot; Sensiba added.

In the final regular season game in his first year as head coach, Sensiba was pleased with his team’s performance.

&uot;I’m extremely proud of these guys.

They have tremendous character and have put in a lot of hard work,&uot; Sensiba said.

The meeting to determine post-season rankings and the tournament schedule was held yesterday (Wednesday).

Ridgecroft is expected to receive a bye in the first round and host a second-round match.
