TIC tourney begins

AHOSKIE – The Tarheel Independent Conference volleyball tournament started here yesterday (Monday).

The junior varsity squads got started yesterday with matches between Albemarle Academy and Northeast Academy, Pungo Christian Academy and Hobgood and Ridgecroft and Terra Ceia Christian School.

Today’s action will see the varsity squads get into action.

At 3:30 p.m. host Ridgecroft School, the second seed, will meet seventh-seeded Northeast Academy in first round action.

The next matchup will pit third-seeded Lawrence Academy against sixth-seed Hobgood Academy. The third game will feature a matchup of fourth-seeded Terra Ceia Christian School and fifth-seeded Pungo Christian Academy.

Wednesday’s matchup will see the junior varsity regular-season champion Lawrence squad face the winner of the Ridgecroft-Terra Ceia contest from Monday. That will begin at 3 p.m.

The second game of the day will feature a varsity match of top-seed Albemarle against the winner of Terra Ceia-Pungo.

The third match will be a jayvee contest between the winners of Hobgood-Pungo and Northeast-Albemarle.

The final matchup of the evening will pit the winners of the Lawrence-Hobgood and Northeast-Ridgecroft matches in the semi-finals of the varsity tournament.

The jayvee conference tournament championship will be settled at 4 p.m. Thursday. The varsity championship will follow.
