AHOSKIE – What allegedly began as a solicitation for sex ended in the arrest of an Ahoskie woman, charged with larceny of a person.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh reported that Denise Ward Hopkins, 36, of 828 Ahoskie-Cofield Road, is free after posting a $2,000 secured bond following her recent arrest.

Fitzhugh said APD Sgt. Michele Garrett received a report on Oct. 8 concerning an alleged robbery that took place in the parking lot of a Church Street business.

&uot;The victim (a male) told Sgt. Garrett that he had just purchased some items from the store and was in the process of placing those items in his truck when he was approached by the suspect,&uot; stated Chief Fitzhugh. &uot;The suspect opened a conversation with the victim, one that apparently involved sexual favors. At that time, the suspect got closer to the victim at which time she began to rub her body against his.&uot;

Chief Fitzhugh went on to say following that incident, the suspect turned and walked away from the victim.

&uot;It was at this time that the victim realized something was missing from his person,&uot; Fitzhugh reported. &uot;What was allegedly missing was an envelope containing an undisclosed amount of cash. When the victim was going over his story with Sgt. Garrett, he recalled the suspect standing close to him and making contact with him. It was then he realized that she may have used that situation to perhaps take the envelope.&uot;

Fitzhugh arranged for a photo line-up. It was there the victim positively identified Hopkins as the woman that approached him in the parking lot.
