GASTON – Andre Williams and Titus Lee combined for 328 rushing yards and four touchdowns as Northampton-West crushed visiting Franklinton 50-14 in a Tar-Roanoke Conference football game here last night.

The Hurricanes (3-4 overall and 1-1 in conference action) never trailed, scoring a pair of first quarter touchdowns on an 11-yard run by Williams and 33-yard pass from Randy Turner to Aljerald Butcher en route to a 12-0 lead.

Franklinton sliced the deficit to 12-7 at the 2:34 mark of the first quarter on a 63-yard TD pass from Donovan Lawrence to Ladarrius Turner.

That same scenario held true in the second quarter where West scored twice – TD runs of 18 yards by Williams and 3 yards by Lee – while Franklinton got on the board thanks to Lawrence’s 7-yard run. The ‘Canes led 28-14 at halftime.

Northampton-West never allowed their guests an opportunity to get back in the game by outscoring their guests 22-0 over the final 24 minutes of action.

The Hurricanes posted six on the board in the third quarter where Lee struck paydirt from 33 yards out, boosting the ‘Canes to 34-14.

In the fourth quarter, the ‘Canes defense got in on the rout when Tim Gainey recovered a blocked punt in the endzone for a West touchdown. Turner hit Jeffrey Long with the conversion pass for a 42-14 advantage. West’s final score came with less than a minute to play on a Desmond Moody 12-yard run. Mack Parker ran in the conversion.

Williams finished with 181 rushing yards on 19 carries. That effort placed him over the 1,000 mark for the third consecutive season. Lee also broke the century mark, rushing for 147 yards on 13 attempts.

West is idle next week.
