Clayton M. Hall Sr.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Clayton McNeil Hall Sr., 69, died September 23, 2004.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in First Baptist Church, Powellsville. Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth chapel, is in charge.

Frances P. Castello

POWELLSVILLE – Frances Parks Castello, 84, of the 300 block of S. Commerce St., died Sept. 24, 2004, in Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville. Mrs. Castello was born in Hertford County, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Etta Lassiter Parks. She was a member of Powellsville Baptist Church, a homemaker and the widow of Sidney Allen Castello. Survivors include a daughter, Bobbie C. Eure of Ahoskie, N.C.; a son, Al Castello of Powellsville; a sister, Edna Willoughby of Windsor, N.C.; and two grandsons, Allen Eure and Ronnie Eure. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Ed Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery, Eure, N.C.

Mildred W. Hill

MURFREESBORO -Mildred White Hill, 92, a native of Hertford County, died September 24, 2004. She was widow of Albert Eugene Hill.

A graveside service was conducted Sunday in Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro by Dr. Franklin B. Lowe. The family has requested that memorial gifts be shared with Murfreesboro Baptist Church, P.O. Box 124, Murfreesboro, NC 27855. Bridgers Funeral Home Inc., in Conway was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hill retired as a manager of the Murfreesboro High School cafeteria and was a long time member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church and was a recipient of the Murfreesboro Exchange Club’s Golden Deeds Award for Community Service.

Survivors include two sons, Albert Hill Jr. and Bruce Hill of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Betty Barrett of Conway and Judith Faison of Franklin, Va.; one brother, James Maurice White of Suffolk, Va.; three sisters, Mary Lassiter of Portsmouth, Ruth Lambeth of Murfreesboro and Kathryn Fordham of Chesapeake; eight grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Samual A. Smith

CORAPEAKE – Samual Walter Allen Smith, died September 24, 2004.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Eureka Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Cameron Currin. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge. Friends may join the family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Morgan Sr., 018 Stocks Lane, Corapeake.

Survivors include his mother and father, Yvonne Morgan Smith and Tracy Smith; his sister, Melanie Smith, all of Corapeake; grandparents, Marie and Walter Morgan Sr. of Corapeake, Allen Thomas Smith Jr. of Portsmouth and Katherine Rutherford of Pensacola, Fla.

Jeannette B. Wise

MANTEO – Jeannette Baines Wise, 82, a native of Gates County, died September 25, 2004, at her residence.

A funeral was conducted Monday in First Assembly of God by Pastor Ron Denham. Burial was in Manteo Cemetery. Twiford’s Colony Chapel was in charge.

Mrs. Wise was a member of First Assembly of God.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Willis Wise; a daughter, Elaine Wise Minton of Point Harbor; a son, Bobby Wise of the residence; two sisters, Dorothy Judkins and Minnie Robertson, both of Suffolk; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Kenneth W. Jones

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – Kenneth Wayne &uot;Kenny&uot; Jones, 52, a native of Pocomoke City, died September 24, 2004, at his brother’s home.

A funeral was conducted Sunday in Lynnhaven Baptist Church, Pocomoke City by the Rev. Kerry Hinton. Contributions may be made in his memory to his church, P.O. Box 237, Pocomoke City, MD 21851 or Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Holloway Melson Funeral Home, 103 Linden Ave., Pocomoke City, Md., was in charge.

Jones was a Pocomoke City Public Works employee for 24 years, he was also self employed in the home improvement industry.

Survivors include a daughter, Eldora &uot;Dorey&uot; Jane Jones and a son, James &uot;Jamie&uot; William Jones, both of Marion Station; and four brothers, Bill Jones of Salisbury, Bob Jones of East Dundee, Ill., Elton Jones of Aulander and David Jones of Boones Mill, Va.

Verna Blizzard

RALEIGH – Verna &uot;Blizz&uot; Blizzard, 70, a native of Brighton, N.Y., died September 24, 2004 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie. She was the widow of George W. Blizzard.

Arrangements are by Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC.

Mrs. Blizzard was retired from Bell South with 26 years of service.

Graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Montlawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include her daughters, Naomi Kyaw of Charlotte, Valerie McSwain of Ahoskie, Melody VanDyke of Raleigh and Belinda Blizzard of Charlotte; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

W. Everette Davidson Jr.

COLERAIN – Walter Everette Davidson Jr., 77, a native of Bertie County, died September 23, 2004, in his home.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Mars Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Burke Holland and the Rev. Al Hughson. Burial was in Highland Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Mars Hill Baptist Church, 1325 Meadow Road, Colerain, NC 27924. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, was in charge.

Davidson was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara White Davidson; a daughter, Deborah D. Dratch of Centerville, Va.; two sons, Timothy Everette Davidson of McPherson, KS, and Christopher White Davidson of Nags Head; and five grandchildren.

Norman Freeman

COLERAIN – Norman Lewis Freeman, died September 24, 2004 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie, by Magalene Powell. Burial was in First Baptist Church Colerain Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Scyber Watford Freeman of Colerain; three daughters, Carolyn Rich of Chester, Pa., Linda Logan of Oxon Hill, Md., and Norman Bridges of Dale City, Va.; one brother, Edward B. Freeman of Ahoskie; and five grandchildren.

Joshous D. Barnes

NORFOLK, Va. – Joshous Devone Barnes, 61, a native of Northampton County, died September 24, 2004 at DePaul Medical Center.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Allen Chapel AME Church, Jackson, by the Rev. Sidbury. Burial will be in the Mitchelle family cemetery, Potecasi. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include brothers and sisters, Ben Deloatch of Jackson, William Cleveland Jr., Benjamin, Theola and Josephine Barnes, all of New Brunswick, NJ, Samuel Barnes of New York, Ronnie Barnes of Somerset, NJ, Charlie Barnes of Conway, Gloria Barnes of Williamsburg, Thelma Barnes of Murfreesboro, Bernice Barnes of Alexandria and Pearline Jackson of Raleigh.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Madie Freeman, died September 25, 2004 at Inner Faith Medical Center.

AHOSKIE – Janice Rae Askew, died September 26, 2004 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
