WINDSOR – The Wallace Rose Hill Bulldogs scored on their first two possessions en route to a 26-6 win over the Bertie Falcons here Friday night.

The 1A Bulldogs came into Falcon Stadium looking for an upset win over the 3A home squad.

Despite having two players – William Howard and Jarekus Creecy – rush for over 100 yards apiece, the Falcons defense simply could not stop a potent Bulldog offense that scored early and often.

The Bulldogs first touchdown came on a 32 yard run by quarterback Andrew Bowden.

The sophomore’s score along with the extra point by Bradley Bradshaw gave the visiting team the 7-0 lead two minutes and twenty seconds into the first quarter.

A three and out by the Falcons gave the Bulldogs the ball on their own 20 yard line.

Eleven plays later it was half back Levorn Coston who plunged in from three yards out for the second touchdown of the evening.

Coston was a workhorse gaining 62 of the 80 yards on eight carries.

The Bradshaw PAT increased the lead to 14-0 with 3:13 remaining in the first quarter.

Although both teams put on some drives including one Falcon drive that ended with a fumble on the Bulldog one yard line, neither team could reach the endzone again for the remainder of the half.

A 35 minute rain delay at the beginning of the third quarter sent both teams back to their respective locker rooms.

The Falcons had been driving downfield before the delay but were unable to get things going again when they returned.

It did not take long for Wallace Rose Hill to strike however when, on their fifth snap of the second half John Tate scampered 56 yards to paydirt.

The two point conversion failed leaving the score at 20-0, advantage visitors with 3:41 remaining in the third quarter.

Bertie finally got on the scoreboard less than three minutes into the final quarter when freshman quarterback Desmond Williams followed his blockers 13 yards for the touchdown.

The nine play, 83 yard drive began with a fumble recovery by defensive back Charles Newsome and cut the lead to 20-6.

About five minutes later it was the Bulldogs Brennon Teachey who recovered a Bertie fumble setting up his team on their own 38.

Four plays later James Evans ran in from eight yards out for the final score of the evening to give his team the 26-6 win.
