JACKSON – Family members of the late Carolyn Pope were presented with a plaque of appreciation here last week on behalf of the Northampton County Board of Education and the Rich Square-Creecy School family, for the years of dedicated service she gave before a car accident took her life unexpectedly earlier this year.

&uot;For the past seven years, Mrs. Carolyn Pope has been a vital fixture at Rich Square-Creecy School,&uot; said Northampton County School Board Chair Catherine Moody prior to making the presentation. &uot;She could be found daily working with students, especially Mrs. Perry’s first grade class.&uot;

&uot;Mrs. Pope was an instrumental volunteer and grandparent of children in Northampton County Public Schools,&uot; said Susie Johnson Director of Community/School Relations and Student Services.

&uot;One of the teachers would go and pick her up. Every day she would come to help the students and/or the teachers with whatever they needed help with,&uot; she said.

&uot;Whether it was reading to the children, helping them with their class work, administering accelerated reading tests or monitoring their actions in the halls, on the playground or in the cafeteria, Mrs. Pope was in her glory doing the things that she loved best,&uot; said Moody, &uot;helping the children in our community develop and grow emotionally, physically and academically.

&uot;Her love was shown through her involvement in both school and extra-curricular activities. Everyone knew when it was ‘Girl Scout Cookie Time’. Her thoughtfulness was evident in the special treats she brought as a surprise or reward for a job well-done.&uot;

She continued, &uot;She will be truly missed, but her legacy lives on in the lives of the many individuals who were fortunate to have been blessed by her encouraging presence through the years.&uot;

The plaque, which contained an acronym using the letters of her name described her character as: Caring about others, Always involved with children, Ready to help anyone at any time, On the go with scouting activities, Loyal in her attendance as a school volunteer, Young at heart, Never gave up until the job was done, Positive role model, Optimistic about the abilities of students and Proud of her family and Everyone’s grandma, was presented to her son and grandson at the ceremony.
