William Warren

MERRY HILL – William Warren, 68, died Aug. 23 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Warren was born Feb. 18, 1936 to James and Melissa Warren.

He joined Ashland Baptist Church at an early age. He worked various jobs, but is best remembered as an employee at Donald’s Shell in Ahoskie.

Survivors include four sons, Willis Riddick, Kenny Riddick and William Riddick, all of Windsor, and Leon Wilson of Colerain; and 14 grandchildren.

He is also survived by two brothers, John Henry Warren and Donald Warren, both of Merry Hill; and two sisters, Annie Capehart and Irene Sutton, both of Merry Hill.

A funeral was held Aug. 28 at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Colerain. Burial followed in the Ashland Baptist Church cemetery.

Arthur Perry

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. – Arthur Mycheil Perry, a native of Bertie County, died here Tuesday, Aug. 31 at Doctor Community Hospital.

Survivors include one daughter, Clarissa Stroud of Maryland; five brothers, Ellis Perry Jr., Clarence D. Perry and Melvin Perry, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., and John T. Perry and Alfred Perry, both of Colerain; and four sisters, Bessie Bell of Merry Hill, Mamie Perry of Colerain, Dorothy Douglas of Queens, N.Y. and Barbara Jean Perry of Brooklyn, N.Y.

A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5 at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Colerain, by the Rev. Nathaniel Thompson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Julia B. Anderson

ENFIELD – Mrs. Julia Branch Anderson, 89, died Thursday, Sept. 2 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

Anderson graduated from both Peace College and East Carolina Teachers College with a degree in teaching. She taught music in her home for many years and also played the piano for Dawson Baptist Church and Enfield Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, W. Wayne Anderson of Jersey City, N.J. and Alton W. Anderson Jr. of Enfield; one sister, Huldah Herman of Enfield; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 6 at Enfield Baptist Church by the Rev. Dallas Prestwood. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Enfield.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until on Sunday, Sept. 5 at the home of Mrs. Julia B. Anderson.

James R. Manley

WINTON – James Richard &uot;Gator&uot; Manley, 60, of 104 North Hill Street, Winton, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004 at his residence.

He was the son of the late Ulysses and Beatrice Britt Manley.

Manley was employed with Commercial Ready Mix before becoming disabled.

He was a member of Jordan Grove Baptist Church.

To many he was known as &uot;Prarie Dog&uot; on his CB radio.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl V. Manley of the home; five sisters, Lois Warren, Lula Melendez (Sandy) and Jane Lewis, all of Lynchburg, Va., Armecia Matthews (Ronald) of Charlottesville, Va. and Sylvia Manley of Winton; two brothers, Donald S. Manley of Winton and Dupree Manley (Joann) of Queens, N.Y.; 14 stepchildren and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4 at Jordan Grove Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Randy Melton and Rev. Charles R. Reid Jr.

Interment will be in the South Winton Church cemetery.
