Patricia Patterson

ROANOKE RAPIDS – Funeral arrangements are incomplete and being handled by H.D. Pope Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids for Mrs. Patricia Patterson, 38, of Roanoke Rapids who died on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

George B. Jones

MURFREESBORO – George Braxton Jones, 79, of Murfreesboro, died Saturday, August 14, 2004 at his residence.

Jones was a native of Gates County and is survived by a wife Euzelia Hawkins Jones of Murfreesboro and two children, George &uot;Mack&uot; Jones of Durham and Millicent E. Jones of Winton. Also surviving him are seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 21 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Murfreesboro with Rev. Robert Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Gatling Family Cemetery in Mapleton. Services of comfort are entrusted to Hertford County Undertakers.

Bessie C. Baker

MERRY HILL – Bessie Cofield Baker, 93, of 339 Old Merry Hill Road, died Saturday, August 14, 2004 in the Harrisburg Hospital.

Mrs. Baker was born in Bertie County on September 18, 1910 to the late William Alton and Betty Perry Cofield and was predeceased by her husband, Rufus Josephus Baker.

She was a member of Merry Hill Baptist Church, the Eastern Star and homemaker.

Survivors include, sons, Darrell Baker of Silver Spring, MD and Everett Baker of Oak Island, NC; and one sister Willie Mae Perry of Perrytown, NC; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2004 at Merry Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Bryant. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Colerain, NC.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday, August 19, 2004 at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor. Memorial gifts may be made to the Merry Hill Baptist Church.

Thomas P. Sewell

HARRELLSVILLE – Thomas P. Sewell, 71, of 111 Sunset St. in Harrellsville, died Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at the Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

Sewell, a retired farmer, was a native of Hertford County and served in the North Carolina National Guard.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 19 at 4:30 p.m. at Christian Harbor Baptist Church Cemetery, followed by the burial at the same, with Rev. Hugh Mizelle officiating.

Garrett Funeral Home in Ahoskie will be handling the funeral arrangements.
