MURFREESBORO – Head women’s basketball coach Scott Groninger has resigned his position at Chowan College.

He is leaving to take over the women’s basketball program at Christian Brothers University in Memphis.

&uot;Although I enjoyed my time at Chowan, it’s a great move for my family&uot;, Groninger stated.

Originally from St. Louis, it will be just a few hours drive from CBU to his hometown and family there.

Groninger led the Braves to an 18-8 overall record and a 13-3 USA South record, good enough to win the regular season USA South Title. The Braves fell short in the conference tournament championship game losing to Christopher Newport University 57-47. Groninger was named the Coach of the Year for his coaching performance this season.

&uot;I really enjoyed the community and all the support they gave to my family and the basketball program,&uot; he said. &uot;I also feel very fortunate to have coached and worked with the individuals who made up the team this past season. It wasn’t in the plans to just stay for one season, but this was an opportunity that couldn’t be passed up.&uot;

Christian Brothers University is an NCAA Division II school and participates in the Gulf South Athletic Conference. The university is located in Memphis, Tennessee and has an enrollment of 2,100 students. Groninger will inherit a team that went to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament and finished with a 23-7 overall record last season.
