AHOSKIE – It’s back and it’s bigger and better than ever.

After a brief absence due to budget concerns, the Town of Ahoskie will once again host its popular Independence Day celebration. This time around, Roanoke-Chowan area residents can enjoy two, fun-filled days of various activities (10 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily) in conjunction with our nation’s 228th birthday.

The scene will be the same as in years past as the event will be held on the grounds of Hertford County High School. Plenty of parking is available and admission is free on both days.

Various vendors will offer arts and crafts as well as food items for sale on both days of the event. In addition, there will be plenty of activities available for adults and children. Included among the activities are games, musical entertainment, military presentations, a horse show and, of course, the fireworks display, scheduled for dusk on Sunday, July 4.

On July 3, children and young adults (ages 6-17) can take part in a 25-meter run, baseball, softball and football throwing competitions, free throw and three-point shooting events and a 400-meter run. Also, some team events (wheelbarrow race, relay race and tug-of-war) will be conducted. Vendors looking for a space to sell their items need to contact the Ahoskie Town Hall for an application/agreement form. There will be a $35 fee for food vendors ($25 for others). The deadline for vendor registration is 12 noon on June 21.
