AHOSKIE – A Rich Square man was arrested and charged with drug possession here last week.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said that David Tyron Perry, 32, was placed in the Hertford County Jail on June 2 under a $10,000 secured bond on the charge of possession with intent to sale and deliver crack cocaine.

Perry was arrested after a traffic stop conducted by Ahoskie Police Officer Andres Snapes. He was patrolling the Holloman Avenue area shortly past midnight on June 2 when he noticed a vehicle, not operating its headlights, leaving from an area behind the Shaw University CAPE Center.

Snapes, a rookie officer, was accompanied by his supervisor, APD Sgt. Michelle Garrett. She noticed the driver allegedly throw an object out of the vehicle’s window after Snapes made the traffic stop. That object turned out to be a bag containing a white, rock-like substance, later determined to be crack cocaine.

Subsequent to the arrest, Perry was handcuffed and searched at the scene. A passenger in Perry’s vehicle was not arrested.
