Jacqueline C. Davis

COLERAIN – Jacqueline Curling Davis, 65, a native of Norfolk, Va., died May 14, 2004.

A memorial service was conducted Sunday at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo, by the Rev. Ronnie Midgett. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930 B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834. Visit www.twifordfh.com to sign the online register.

Survivors include her husband, Victor Lynn Davis Jr.; a son, Victor Lynn Davis III of Wanchese; two daughters, Robin Leigh Davis of Chapel Hill and Jill Marie Szalaj of Garner; a sister, Carol Curling Ransdell of Virginia Beach; and five grandchildren.

Antionette J. Langston

SUFFOLK, Va. – Antionette Juanita Langston, 90, a native of Hertford County, died May 13, 2004, at her residence. She was the widow of Robert E. Langston.

Survivors include a daughter, Alta Brenda Hall of Suffolk; a sister, Wilhelmina Savage of Philadelphia, Pa.; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral was Monday in Crocker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. J.J. Ferguson. Interment was in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.

Lester M. Berry Jr.

NORFOLK, Va. – Lester Merrick Berry Jr., 59, a native of York, Pa., died May 12, 2004.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Peterson Chapel Baptist Church. Interment will be in the White’s family cemetery, Merry Hill. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is in charge.

Berry was a mechanic engineer with Globe Iron for more than three years and an engineer with General Electric for more than 20 years. In his formative years he resided in Bertie County and was a member of Peterson Chapel Baptist Church. He joined the U.S. Navy ad later moved to Baltimore, Md.

Survivors include his daughter, Ulricia Berry of Baltimore; two sons, Lester M. Berry III and Rashawn Berry, both of Baltimore; father, Willie L. Gilliam of Norfolk; five sisters, Bessie Sparrow of Maryland, Gloryies Gilliam of Norfolk, W.M. Young, Doris G. Ridley, both of Virginia Beach and Ruby L. Gilliam of Norfolk; and a granddaughter.

Tommy Rogerson

AULANDER – Tommy Lee Rogerson, 86, a native of Bertie County, died May 16, 2004 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Garrett Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Edwards. Interment will be in Job cemetery.

Rogerson was a retired longshoreman and a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Roy E. Ayscue

AHOSKIE – Roy Earl Ayscue, 64, a native of Bertie County, died May 14, 2004, in Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel, Windsor, by the Rev. J.R. Thomas. Burial was in Stoney Creek Cemetery.

Ayscue was a farmer before retirement.

Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Ayscue of Greenville; a son, Kenneth Earl Ayscue of Rocky Mount; a sister, Dorothy A. Copeland of Windsor; a brother, Robert Lee Ayscue of Concord; and four grandchildren.

Emma Stephenson

COMO- Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Stephenson will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Menola Baptist Church by the Rev. Bobby Warren. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Hollis E. Newsome

MURFREESBORO – Hollis E. Newsome, died May 14, 2004, at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church by the Rev. Elton Hall. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include one son, Melvin Newsome of New York City; two daughters, Jacqueline Newsome and Victoria Betton, both of New York City; one brother, Woodrow Newsome of Murfreesboro; three sisters, Geraldine Freeman of Harrellsville, Yvette Futrell of Murfreesboro and Mable Porter of District Heights, Md.; and four grandchildren.

Mabel Vaughan

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Mabel Vaughan, a native of Hertford County, died May 15, 2004, at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie.

Survivors include one brother, Herbert Ramsey of Philadelphia.

Lillie H. Moss

AHOSKIE – Lillie Hargrove Moss, 89, a native of Northampton County, died May 16, 2004, at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, by the Rev. Luther J. Morris. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Seaboard.

Survivors include her children, Salone P. Ford of Como, Hattie B. Stephenson of Suffolk, Va., and Lillie Jenkins of New York; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
