WINDSOR – Information received from a concerned citizen has led to the arrest of a Windsor man on drug charges.

Roanoke-Chowan Narcotics Task Force (RCNTF) Commander Frank Timberlake reported that Julius Derrick Swain, 26, of 1626 Cooper Hill Road, Windsor, was arrested around midnight on March 25 following a traffic stop on Rhodes Ave. in Windsor.

Acting upon a tip from a citizen, RCNTF Agent T. Lewis stopped a Ford pick-up truck from where Swain exited on the passenger’s side and attempted to flee arrest. The source of the information said that Swain was in possession of a large quantity of crack cocaine.

Following a short foot chase, Lewis and Windsor Police Department officer David Pierce were able to apprehend Swain. During that pursuit, Swain allegedly dropped a set of digital scales.

Upon overtaking the suspect, a search of Swain’s person revealed a spice bottle containing 14.6 grams of powered cocaine, 11.2 grams of crack cocaine and 6.2 grams of marijuana.

Swain was charged with felony possession with intent to sale and deliver a Schedule 2 controlled substance (cocaine), misdemeanor possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $100,000 cash bond.
