AHOSKIE – The Ridgecroft Lady Rams soccer team came up big at home here Tuesday as they beat rival Lawrence Academy, 6-1.

Hayes Bryant provided the Rams first goal.

Bryant, an eighth grade forward, was setup by fellow eighth grade midfielder Loftin

Johnson approximately four minutes into match play.

It took only five minutes to add to the lead as senior midfielder Caitlin Lowe’s pass provided an easy scoring opportunity to junior forward

Landis Joyner to give the home squad a quick two-zip advantage.

Joyner, a point guard on the Rams basketball team, showed she can still distribute the ball by crossing the ball with perfection to a streaking

Bryant, who netted the shot on goal for the 3-0 lead, 28 minutes into the first half.

The Warriors of Lawrence Academy would not give up, however, as Cheech Mantione, a senior midfielder, answered with a goal of her own 57 seconds later to cut the lead to two.

The Rams first goal of the second half was nearly identical to their last goal of the first, except it was Bryant who provided the precision cross

to a waiting Joyner who took full advantage with the goal to increase the lead to 4-1 with 2:12 gone into the second half.

Ten minutes later, Ridgecroft junior midfielder Brittany Taylor chipped in a shot from 15 yards out to stretch the home lead to 5-1.

The final goal of the game came after the Warrior goalie came out of goal in an attempt to get to a loose ball.

However, the ball got behind

her and Lowe found herself in front of an empty net with the ball at her feet.

The easy goal sealed the victory at 6-1.

The win brings the Rams to 2-0 on the season following a home victory against Hobgood Academy last week.

Meredith Huston, a former Chowan College player and one of Ridgecroft’s coaches likes what she has seen thus far.

&uot;The girls are really communicating and passing well,&uot; said Huston. &uot;We are coming together as a team.&uot;

The Warriors host Hobgood at home on Monday (March 29) with kickoff at 4 p.m. while Ridgecroft travels to Kerr-Vance Academy tomorrow (Friday) for a 6 p.m. match.
