CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Joyce Ann Higginbotham, 52, a native of Ahoskie, died February 5, 2004, in her residence.

All services will be private. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, is in charge.

Survivors include a daughter, Amy Holloway; a sister, Cherry Vaughan; and a brother, Cecil Lewis Jr., all of Chesapeake.

Linwood Crutchfield Jr.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Linwood Theodore Crutchfield Jr., 52, a native of Portsmouth, died February 5, 2004, at his home.

A memorial service was conducted Sunday at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 604 Constance Woods Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434.

Crutchfield was employed as a plumber.

Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Kellem of Portsmouth; a son, Clayton Crutchfield of Norfolk; a brother, Ernie Crutchfield of Portsmouth; sister, Gail Williams of Suffolk; half sisters, Beverly Grover, Eva Good and Anita Crutchfield, all of Virginia Beach; and half brothers, Tommy Crutchfield of Chesapeake and Preston &uot;Chipper&uot; Crutchfield Lanier of Gates County.

Georgia Lane

ROCKY MOUNT – Georgia Lane, died February 6, 2004, at Duke Hospital, Durham.

James Lofton

NORFOLK, Va. – James &uot;Donch,&uot; Lofton, 74, died February 4, 2004, in Harbour Pointe Rehabilitation Center.

Lofton retired from the Naval Supply Center and was an U.S. Army veteran.

Lofton and Vincent R. Lofton, both of Norfolk; one sister, Betty Anne Sheppard of Norfolk; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

ROANOKE RAPIDS – James E. Putney, 69, died February 7, 2004, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Nellie Deloatch

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Nellie Gray Holloman Deloatch, a native of Ahoskie, died January 26, 2004, at her residence.

A funeral was conducted February 4, 2004 at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Baker Funeral Home was in charge.

Survivors include daughters, Diane D. McCoy of Ahoskie, Cynthia Deloatch; a son, Walter Deloatch Jr.; her twin brother, Jessie Ray Holloman of Bristol; sisters, Mary B. Hardy of Garysburg, Lenora Richardson of Philadelphia and Alice Louise Sessoms of Ahoskie; and four grandchildren.

Blanche N. Harmon

AULANDER – Blanche Norris Harmon, 72, a native of Pitt County, died February 7, 2004, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. She was the widow of Albert McKeel and Eli Harmon.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lewiston Assembly of God by the Rev. Stephen Farmer. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor and at other times at the home of Debbie Harmon, 113 Charlie Harmon Road, Ahoskie.

Mrs. Harmon was a member of Lewiston Assembly of God where she was the president of Women’s Ministries and a teen Sunday School teacher. She was retired from Dan Pittman’s Insurance Agency.

Survivors include four daughters, Anna Woodley of Roper, Debbie Harmon of Aulander and Connie Bazemore and Sandra Kowalski, both of Ahoskie; a son, Albert McKeel Jr. of Windsor; two sisters, Huldy Carter of Smyrna, DE and Helen Thomas of Knightdale; two brothers, Woodrow Norris of Chesapeake, Va., and A.C. Foy of Windsor; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

L.W. Jordan

ROANOKE RAPIDS – L.W. &uot;Jack&uot; Jordan, 77, a native of Northampton County, died February 7, 2004 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Seaboard Cemetery, Seaboard, by Dr. T. Dale Kidd. Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Jordan was a self-employed master craftsman having worked as a carpenter most of his life. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Seaboard Hunting Club.

Survivors include his wife, Nannie Long Jordan; a daughter, Gayle J. Hudson of Roanoke Rapids; a son, Lenwood W. Jordan Jr. of Roanoke Rapids; a brother, Carl Jordan of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Frances Howell of Poetersburg; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Henry Spruill

WINDSOR – Henry Bazemore &uot;H.B.&uot; Spruill, 89, a native of Bertie County, died February 8, 2004 at his home. He was the widower of Nancy Taylor Spruill.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Robert White. Masonic Rites and Military Rites will be observed. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Spruill was the founder and chairman of Spruill Farms, Inc. and Spruill Oil Company. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart and participated in the Battle of Normandy. He founded and commanded the Bertie County Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the American Legion. He also was a former National Chairman of the Young Democratic Clubs of North Carolina and the National Counselor of the US Chamber of Commerce. H.B. was a former president of the North Carolina Society of Farm managers, the Windsor Rotary Club, and a former Rotary District Governor. He was a Thirty second degree Mason, member of Sudan Shrine, past Worshipful Master of Davie Lodge #39 and member of JOVAM (junior order).

Survivors include three sons, Hunter Spruill and Charles Taylor Spruill, both of Windsor and Walt Spruill of Hatteras; a sister, Hannah S. McGaw of Windsor; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Barbara A. Riddick

BALTIMORE, Md. – Barbara Ann Riddick, a native of Bertie County, died January 31, 2004, at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Baltimore.

A funeral was conducted Saturday at Peterson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Merry Hill. Burial was in the James family cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home was in charge.

She was employed at Mt. Sinai Hospital for 18 years. She was a member of Peterson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include aunts; and great-aunts.
