James Mason

NORFOLK, Va. – James &uot;Masio&uot; Mason, 53, a native of Seaboard, died January

4, 2004, at Tandem Nursing Home.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St., by the Rev. Charles Gaines. Family and friends will assemble at 1113 Paul St. one hour prior to the service for the procession to the chapel. Mason was employed as a landscaper and enjoyed gardening and fishing in his leisure time. Survivors include his wife, Ruby J. Mason; two daughters, Shannon Bishop and Eura Mason, both of Arizona; a stepdaughter, Bettina Sessom of Norfolk; one son, James Mason of Arizona; a stepson, Robert Sessom of Hampton; his mother, Martha Mason of Margarettsville; three sisters, Elaine Porter and Virginia Pernell, both of Margarettsville and Polly Little of Norfolk; three brothers, Melvin Mason of Margarettsville, Linberge Mason of Farmville and Richard Mason of Norfolk; and a host of grandchildren.

Alene E. Neville

ENFIELD – Alene Earley Neville, 96, a native of Hertford County, died January 2, 2004, at Brekenridge Retirement Center, in Rocky Mount. She was the widow of Graham Neville.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield by the Rev. Dallas Prestwood. The family request that memorial donations be made to the Enfield Baptist Church at 200 West Burnette Avenue, Enfield, NC, 27823, in memory of Alene Earley Neville. Mrs. Neville was a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College, now East Carolina University and Atlantic Christian College, now Barton College. Prior to retirement, she served as an educator in the Tarboro City School System and later in the Halifax County School System at Enfield Graded School. Mrs. Neville was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society and a former member of the Tuesday afternoon Study Club.

Survivors include one son, Nicholson Graham Neville, Jr. of Henderson; one granddaughter; three greatgrandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Emma Earley Parker, of Woodland; and one brother, Arthur E. Earley, of Westfield, NY.

James F. Frisbie Jr.

RALEIGH – James Franklin Frisbie Jr., 76, a native of Winston-Salem, died January 2, 2004.

A funeral was conducted Monday at the First Baptist Church. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery. Brown-Wynne Funeral Home was in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 99 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC 27603 or to Wake Forest University, P.O. Box 7227, 1834 Wake Forest Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27109-7686.

Frisbie retired from IBM with 35 years of service in 1990.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Joyner Frisbie; son, James F. Frisbie, III of Raleigh; a daughter, Penelope &uot;Penny&uot; Frisbie of Raleigh; three god-children, Lisa Joyner Rascoe of Windsor, Stephanie Joyner Phelps of Greenville and David C. Joyner, Jr. of Kill Devil Hill.

Morrison Myers Jr.

WILLIAMSTON – Morrison Davis &uot;George&uot; Myers Jr., 84, died January 2, 2004 in Pitt County Memorial Hosptial. He was the widower of Christine Mumma Myers.

A memorial service was conducted Wednesday at the Church of the Advent by the Rev. Jim Horton. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Martin Memorial Library.

Walker Funeral Home of Williamston was in charge.

Myers was a retired teacher having worked with the Martin County Schools and was also a retired bee keeper. He was a member of the Church of the Advent and a member of the Beaufort County Coin Club and the North Carolina Association of Educators. He was also a veteran having served with the US Army during WWII.

Survivors include daughters, Dawn Myers of Virginia Beach, Va., Debora Willoughby of Bear Grass, Valerie Cooke of Williamston and Suzanne &uot;Susie&uot; Lawrence of Windsor; sons, Harry Myers of Whitsett and Charles Myers of Everetts; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Flora B. Gardner

WINDSOR – Flora Marie Brant Gardner, 69, a native of Mountain Home, Idaho, died January 5, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor, by the Rev. Rachel Holloman. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Gardner was a homemaker.

Survivors include three daughters, Teresa Belangia and Betty Jo Belangia, both of Raleigh and Virginia Phillips of Swansboro; two sons, James Belangia of Ahoskie and John Belangia of Scotland Neck; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Dillard L. Lassiter

WINTON – Dillard Lee Lassiter, 55, a native of Northampton County, died January 3, 2004 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Nebo Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Holloman. Burial will be in the Lassiter family cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Clarine V. Lassiter of Murfreesboro; and sisters and brothers, Joseph Sharpe and Haywood Sharpe, both of Murfreesboro, Johnnie Sharpe and Isaac Sharpe, both of Pendleton, Doris Futrell, Lois Goldberry, Patricia Grant, Brenda Sharpe, Melvie Sharpe, Claudia Blythe and Everlene Stephenson, all of Woodland; and Earlie M. Flythe of Conway.

Mayland Harris

ST. JOHN – Mayland Harris, 90, a native of Bertie County, died January 4, 2004 in his home.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Lebron Britt, are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Zion Grove Baptist Church, where Harris was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Wilder’s Funeral Home, Aulander, is handling the arrangements.

Harris was retired from the NC Department of Transportation.

Survivors include a daughter, Lontonnia (&uot;Tonya&uot;) Lassiter of the home; one son, Richard Lee Williams of Ahoskie; and three grandchildren.

Terrance Moore

AHOSKIE – Terrance Moore, 42, of Ahoskie died January 5, 2004 in his home.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9 at New Ahoskie Baptist Church. Rev. Patrick Young will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Ahoskie. Reynolds Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.

Moore served as a Trustee at New Ahoskie Baptist Church where he was a member of the Gospel Men’s Choir and was Director of the Youth Choir. He served as a Cub Scout leader and was a teacher in the Hertford County Public School System.

Survivors include his mother, Florence H. Moore; grandmother, Recie Moore; and three brothers, Paul R. Moore Jr., John K. Moore and Gerald C. Moore, all of Ahoskie.

Louis Cox

WINDSOR – Louis Cox, 75, of 122 Center Road, Windsor died Friday at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2004 at Cedar Landing Baptist Church followed by burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor, NC. The wake will be 7-8 p.m. Friday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel.

Lartha Bridgett

WINDSOR – Lartha Bridgett, 92, of 405 Leghorn St., Windsor, died Saturday at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2004 at Bazemore Temple Holiness Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor, NC.

Isiah Spivey, Jr.

WINDSOR – Isiah Spivey, Jr., age 60, of 121 Spivey Lane, Windsor, NC died Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2004 at St. Elmo Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Windsor.

Charlie R. Perry, Jr.

COLERAIN – Charlie R.Perry, Jr., 88, of 2848 NC 45, Colerain died Wednesday at his home.

The funeral will be held Sunday, January 11, 2004 at Zion Hill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor will be in charge of arrangements.

Ernest O. Ruffin

PLEASANTVILLE, NJ – Ernest O. Ruffin, 64, of 509 W. Park Ave., Pleasantville, NJ died Monday, January 5, 2004 in the Pleasantville Hospital.

Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2004 at Indian Woods Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
