Martha Etheridge

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Martha Olivia Ross Etheridge, a native of Tunis, died January 18, 2004. She was the widow of E. Carlton Etheridge.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at The First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach, 36th Street at Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach. Remembrances may be in the form of contributions to The First Presbyterian Church, 300 36th St., Virginia Beach, VA 23451 or to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Etheridge was a member of the Congregational Christian Church and a member of the Dorcas Bible Sunday School Class. She was a member of The Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter, Carl L. Etheridge, Robert R. Etheridge and Sally E. Hunter; and six grandchildren.

Stella L. Hawkins

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Stella L. Artist Hawkins, 55, a native of Aulander, died January 15, 2004, in Maryview Medical Center.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday in Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth chapel, by the Rev. F.R. Williams. Burial was in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach.

Survivors include her husband, Maceo Hawkins; two daughters, Christine Hawkins and Nicole Hawkins; three sons, Ike Peele, Antonio Hawkins and Maceo Hawkins Jr., all of Portsmouth; two sisters, Hazel Lewter of Portsmouth and Ernistine Artist of Boston, Mass.; four brothers, Eugene Artist, Melvin Artist, Vernon Artist and Roosevelt Artist, all of Portsmouth; and 14 grandchildren.

Henrietta Wilkerson

HARRELLSVILLE – Henrietta Collins Wilkerson, 83, a native of Bertie County, died January 17, 2004, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Lewis. Burial will be in the Wilkerson family cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Wilkerson was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Willie Collins of Norfolk, Va., Ronnie Ward of Portsmouth and William E. Collins of New York; one sister, Tulie Riddick of Philadelphia, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Tobiyus Garrett

ROANOKE RAPIDS – Tobiyus Si’Yon Garrett, six weeks old, died January 18, 2004, at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, by Minister Mary Powell. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Lala V. Hornok

MURFREESBORO – Lala Vaughan Hornok, 78, a native of Hertford County, died January 20, 2004, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Potecasi Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Deacon. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Potecasi Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hornok was a retired teacher having taught in Northampton County schools for over 32 years. She graduated from East Carolina Teachers College, was a member of the UDC Jerusalem Chapter, Courtland, Va., and a member of Potecasi Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Paula H. Jones of Murfreesboro; a son, Joseph Gary Hornok of Ervin, Tenn.; a sister, Elsie V. Babb of Woodland; a brother, Grady G. Vaughan of Hampton, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Donnell E. Wilson

COLERAIN – Donnell Eugene Wilson, 51, a native of Bertie County, died January 19, 2004, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Colerain, by the Rev. Wise. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Wilson was a farmer and a member of First Baptist Church Colerain.

Survivors include three brothers, Benjamin Wilson of Harrellsville, Thomas Riddick of Windsor and James Wilson of Colerain; and one sister, Mary E. Banks of Harrellsville.
