After trailing only 10-8 at the end of the first quarter, Lawrence Academy’s varsity boys watched Rocky Mount pull away in the second period to lead 31-21 at the half.

Hertford County – 67

Brunswick – 51

Hertford County High School’s varsity boys used balanced scoring to top Brunswick County High School for the second time this year.

The Bears, who placed only two in double figures, easily topped Brunswick 67-51 Saturday night in Ahoskie

Pert Simons (11) and Lakendrick Lee (10) were the only Bears in double figures scoring while Brandon Long added nine and Curt Jenkins, Taydrek Powell, Weyling White and Reggie Wiggins all had six.

Brunswick was led by Aaron Scott with 15 points.

Rocky Mount – 71

Hertford County – 57

Rocky Mount’s David Pittman and Kelvin Patterson each scored 13 Friday night and that was unlucky for Hertford County as the Gryphons grabbed a 71-57 victory.

The Bears trailed 34-34 at the half, but Rocky Mount opened the third period on a 10-0 run and pulled away.

HCHS rallied to within seven (56-40) by the end of the first quarter, but the Gryphons used a Stephen Virgil field goal early in the fourth to push the lead back to 10.

The Bears were led by Reggie Wiggins (12) and Lorenzo Benthall (11) while LaMarcus Bond added eight, Pert Simons had seven and Qwenton Valentine finished with six points.
