Josephine Lee

AULANDER – Josephine P. Lee, 74, a native of Bertie County, died November 17, 2003, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Aulander First Baptist Church by the Rev. Stevie Lawrence. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.

She was a retired seamstress and grader for Perdue. She was also a member of Aulander Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Beulah Ballance; two sons, Haru Powell and Garvie Lee Jr., both of Aulander; one brother, Lonnie Powell of Baltimore, Md.; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Theodore Banks Sr.

FRANKLIN, Va. – Theodore

&uot;Gator&uot; Banks Sr., 55, a native of Ahoskie, died November 11, 2003 at his home.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Boykins,

by the Rev. William F. Singletary. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Entrusting Hands Funeral Home of Boykins was in charge.

Banks was employed by the City of Franklin, Public Works Department.

Survivors include his wife, Suzette, his four stepchildren, James Keith, Samantha, Mia and Jason Lewis, of Franklin; his children, Theodore Jr. of Windsor, Evon Banks and Michelle Banks,

both of Murfreesboro, and Leon Eason of Ahoskie, and another stepdaughter, Peggy Smallwood of Ahoskie;

three sisters; Carolyn Corbin of Franklin, Bernice Smith of Ahoskie and Mildred Banks of Brooklyn, NY; three brothers, James of Winton and Thomas Cobb of Manhattan; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Roy Meadows

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Roy Meadows, died November 18, 2003, at Sentara Norfolk General.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

George Bennett Sr.

RICH SQUARE – George Clifton Bennett Sr., 86, a native of Berea, Fla., died November 18, 2003, at Autumn Care, Rich Square.

A funeral will be conducted Monday, November 24, 2003 at Buxton Funeral Home, Ockeechobee, Fla., by Pastor Bill Brumley. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Lauderdale. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, is in charge of local arrangements.

Bennett was a retired barber. He was a WWII Army veteran.

Survivors include a son, George C. Bennett Jr.; two stepdaughters, Karen McFadden and Teresa Mills; two sisters, Maude Henry and Mildred Ferranti; two half sisters, Ella Mae Yountz and Erma Lee Bright; and two grandchildren.

Viola C. Cobb

MERRY HILL – Viola Castelloe Cobb, 94, a native of Bertie County, died November 18, 2003, at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie. She was the widow of William Martin Cobb.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Cemetery, Colerain, by the Rev. Tommy Tripp and the Rev. Al Jarrell. The family will receive friends from 6:3-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor. Memorial gifts may be made to the Colerain Rescue Squad, PO Box 397, Colerain, NC 27924.

Mrs. Cobb was a homemaker and a member of Riverside Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Cola Cobb of Suffolk, Va.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth H. Boyce

RALEIGH – Elizabeth Harrell Boyce, 89, a native of Northampton County, died November 18, 2003, at City of Oaks Nursing Home. She was the widow of James T. Boyce Sr.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Rich Square Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Rogers. Burial will be in Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Rich Square Baptist Church fellowship hall one hour before the service. Sykes Funeral Service, Inc., Rich Square, is in charge.

Survivors include a son, George &uot;Jack&uot; Boyce of Raleigh; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
