AHOSKIE – It may be a bit cooler by early November, but the Indian Summer Days celebration in Ahoskie will be observed.

Postponed from its original dates of Oct. 2-4 due to the ongoing clean-up efforts from Hurricane Isabel, the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce has announced a new set of dates for it’s Thirty-Third Annual Indian Summer Days – now scheduled for Nov. 6-8.

Other than the change in the dates, everything else associated with the event remains as originally planned.

There will be a Craft Show and Sale in connection with this event. The Craft Show will be held on Friday and Saturday, November 7 and 8 at the Ahoskie National Guard Armory located on Peachtree Street. The hours for the show are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Craftsmen from North Carolina and Virginia will be participating in this years’ show and sale. There will be several craftsmen returning from previous years and many new craftsmen who have not shown in the Ahoskie area before with a large variety of excellent crafts to choose from.

Some of the crafts to be shown for sale are: Japanese Chiyogami eggs and Tea Boxes, Fall baskets, wreaths and decorations, country scene note cards, Christmas ornaments, novelty crafts, beadwork, folk art, dolls. Also Halloween crafts, jewelry, wizards-santas, dryer vent snowmen, painted lanterns, flower arrangements, candles, flags, bouquets for weddings and proms, hand painted birdhouses, feeders and other wood crafts. As well as personalized Christmas ornaments, busy boxes for children, gel candles, rush and cane chairs, stools, antiques, soft sculpture, sewn items, wood frame prints on tin. Also scrap booked &uot;picture frames,&uot; flowers, fall pieces, ceramics, homemade goodies, pecan brittle, homemade fudge, chocolate pecans, white chocolate pecans, sugared peanuts and baskets.

An auction will kick off the Indian Summer Days celebration at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 6

at the National Guard Armory. Items to be auctioned are donated by many of the merchants in the Ahoskie area. In addition to the Craft Show and Auction, there will be town wide sales on Nov. 6-8 with many merchants planning special activities for this three-day period.

A concession stand will offer home baked goods along with hot dogs, barbecue, soup and much, much more. There is no admission charge to visit the Craft Show and Sale.
