Lina C. White

WINDSOR – Lina Copeland White, 93, a native of Perquimans County, died August 30, 2003, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. She was the widow of L.J. White Sr.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Askewville Baptist Church by the Rev. Freddie Harris. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home. Memorials may be made to Askewville Baptist Church Building Fund, 110 E. Askewville St., Windsor, NC 27983 or to the Bertie County Rescue Squad, PO Box 74, Windsor, NC 27983.

Mrs. White was a member of Askewville Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn White, Dorothy Jernigan and Anna Jernigan, all of Askewville; a son, Livingston &uot;L.J.&uot; White Jr. of Edenton; two brothers, William Roger Copeland of Askewville and Edward Copeland of Greenville; seven grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

James T. Rodgers Jr.

COFIELD – James Thomas Rodgers Jr., 34, a native of Gates County, died August 30, 2003 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Rodgers was a welder for Gregory Rascoe Co. He was also a retired maintenance worker for Burger King, Ahoskie.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Banks Rodgers; a daughter, Talia Rodgers of Cofield;

Ruby S. Holder

WINDSOR – Ruby Smith Holder, 91, a native of Bertie County, died August 30, 2003, at Tandem Health Care in Norfolk, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Walker Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Dennis Conner and the Rev. Jack Byrd. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home.

Mrs. Holder was retired from the ASCS office in Bertie County and a member of Cashie Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Frances H. Bell of Norfolk; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Thomas J. Morris

WILMINGTON – Thomas Jefferson Morris, a native of Colerain, recently of Wilmington, and formerly a long-time resident of Greenville and Pine Knoll Shores, died August 28, 2003.

A memorial service will be held in Wilmington at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Jarvis Memorial Methodist Church, 510 South Washington Street, Greenville, N.C., 27835. Mr. Morris had made arrangements for his body to be donated to the ECU School of Medicine and his wishes will be honored.

Morris graduated from N.C. State University in 1932 and served in the Pacific during WWII. After the war, Morris returned to Greenville and established General Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. which he operated for 37 years.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Whitehurst Morris; his son, Bernard J. Morris of Wilmington; his daughter, Jane Morris Hines of Rocky Mount; and five grandchildren.

Martha H. Parker

AHOSKIE – Martha Henrietta Parker, 84, died August 28, 2003.

A graveside service was conducted Monday at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery. Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, was in charge.

Howard Sykes Jr.

ROANOKE RAPIDS – Howard Sykes Jr., 59, died August 30, 2003, at his home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Shirley Jennings

COLUMBIA, Md. – Shirley Jennings, 55, died August 27, 2003, at Howard County General Hospital.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday at Macedonia AME Church, Severn, by Pastor Pamela Faison. Interment will be in the Vinson Cemetery, Pendleton.
