@sillyme-I hope that you are not receiving any of the benefits from the changes that President Obama's has put in place....nor should you accept any benefits that he will put in place, unless you change your heart....Your statement is a sign of pure IGNORANCE and HEARTLESSNESS! I bet you enjoyed spending over $3 for gas, and $3 for a gallon of milk...If you lost your job, I bet that would have been a very happy time for you......I wonder how you would feel if you lost your home and had to be homeless, but still owe the money on your home and never be able to buy another home again with good credit, how you would feel....None of our Presidents have been perfect and we shouldn't expect President Obama to be...nor should we expect that he is going away because he is not! If you think that you could have done a better job, maybe you should go to law school, study Politics and then pursue a career to because the next President of our country.....You should welcome anything that could possibly provide a better lifestyle....No one in that position will ever satisfy everyone...but when it's for the better for the majority of the people we should all look to that light at the end of the tunnel...

This is the very reason why I don't live there anymore and never will live there again!!! PURE IGNORANCE is still running rampant in Bertie!!!!!!! I guess some things will never change...LOL

Trust me i have many examples...as for the record I was born and raise in Bertie County...so I am well aware of what goes on there...I keep in touch with all my family and you should know that I can speak on whatever I choose to speak on..I don't owe you any explanation....just like you don't owe me one...It's my opinion just like it is yours....so you need to check your tone and be mindful that others will have opinions just like you do and if you don't like it..then stop reading the paper!!!! I don't have a problem with constructive criticizim...I don't have a problem with any race and the name calling is WAY out of line...if i were to return the same to you, you wouldn't like it...sounds like you are the one with the problem, not me!!!!!!!!!! I don't like ignorance regardless of the race!!!!!! I think your initial comment was very bias..but that's okay because only you can make a comment about this and no one else....I was responding to the article not you!!!!!!!!!!!!! So make sure next time you remember that a comment is not toward you...it's my opinion and i will make one everytime I feel like it....This is the reason i don't deal with ignorance because of people like you...so my final comment to you is help stop the racial problem in that area if you even live there....I choose to leave because i know that there was a better opportunity for me elsewhere..if you choose to stay then that's your choice....Where I live is not free of racism, but at least my white neighbor on my right, who's from a racist part of the country treat me like a human being and has no issue wtih me...and my black neighbor on my left from a very high crime area...takes care of his family his home and oh yeah...all our homes if we need his assistance....That's what black and whites do to get along..they don't contribute to the problem...and oh yeah me in the middle...I treat them all with respect not because of the color of their skin..but because of they type of people they are....I'm done talking to you because you obviously have some issues that you need to deal with!!!!!!! what, when and where is not important...what's important is that i'm not on the band wagon with either side...I am completly neutral as I think all people regardless of the color of their skin or social status should be able to go freely and enjoy themselves as long as it's not harming anyone or anything...what I do know is that when I come to that area, I don't like going out after dark because i don't know if I'll be hung in a tree by a racist white person or shot down in the street because my vehicle was mistaken for someone else by some wanna be thug.... who still lives with their parents because they don't want a real job and choose to sell drugs for a living...check this out...if you feel like I do that there is a line between the races...change it!!!! I don't live there, but my family does and if I could pack them up and move them out of that area I would...because of the racism that's there from both sides.....there are just as many racist blacks as there are whites..and mixing the school system up so that people can learn about each other's culture is only the start..now we need to get the police and the rest of the community to act as if everyone is equal......i never realized how much that area was divided until i left and my eyes were opened to it...i thought it was the way of life...WRONG!!!

This is only the beginning..Bertie is still racially divided in more ways than just in the school system..I as visiting there this weekend and noticed that the whites are still able to hang out in their spots and the blacks are still being run away....It's time that both sides learn to accept that we all still bleed the same red blood...

@27910- I'm black and i agree with the PoPo....his statements didn't sound racist...he's just pointing out the obvious and it offends you because it's true....remember the saying the truth hurts...i too shop at walmart, payless(where we live), ross....etc....it's not important what brand I wear as long as it's not revealing body parts that are for my eyes only....as long as it's not with the butt showing....as long as it's not so tight that no sound of air can get through.....that area is so materialistic it's hilariously funny.....if u think it's a racism thing maybe u should move from that area and see that it's more to life than fashion.....it saddens me that people would rather buy (fake) clothes than pay their bills...they would rather sell drugs, than pay their bills...they would rather drive a car that they can't afford (in somebody else's name) than pay their bills....they would rather get high or drunk than pay their bills.....they would rather go clubbing in those fake clothes than pay their bills........ people with this mentality needs to get a "real job", and stop milking the welfare system....I work everyday and when i get my paycheck it frustrated me that the taxes coming out of my check are to support "lazy" people....the people who need it can't even get welfare because the "lazy" people have depleated all the funds.....bertie and herford county needs to stop playing that race card because it's not true in all cases...don't get me wrong there are some real racists people there and i've encountered a few myself but it's not in every situation.....until you have truly encountered a racists person like i have you shouldn't pull that card out of the hat just because the statements made are true......Let me share with you what a racist is....a racists is someone who discriminates against you because of race, sex, age, etc....check out this statement in more detail on a job application........i was told that i was an ignorant black girl because I wouldn't do what this white man wanted me to do on my job that was illegal and non HIPAA compliant, and ordered my manager (who was white) to fire every black person, mexican or non white person because we were all ignorant and incompentent....thats racism...guess what the EEOC proved that to him when he got his papers from them...that's racism...and also when the manager stood up and said no this is not right....they fired her too........not people saying "homies" and stuff like that.....when making a valid point......our focus should be on our faith, family and responsibilities....i hope that this opens somebody's eyes.....because that area is really going down...down....down because of stuff like this.....WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!

LOL! yes I think resturants can lead to real jobs...how many resturants that have opened and closed have lead to more jobs???? yes this area is very closed minded..that's why i don't live there anymore and have no plans to ever live there again......my family that still lives there doesn't need welfare they have the right mindset to do better and work for a living...change is not opening another resturant to give people a place to get drunk...change is standing opposed to these types of things that leads to more violence and idol minds......it's doing the same old thing all over again.....the people that have become complacent with nothing are the people who will vote for this because it benefits their habits....what will change??? that another resturant opened in the same building that the last one closed in.....and then this will close too......

well lets provide the opportunity for real jobs.........yes there needs to be more resturants in the area but this is only going to give free range for people to get drunk! That's why this town is so full of drunks, drug addicts and criminals....they need something productive to do!!!

These old people who are still stuck on ancient ways, need to move aside or get with the program...Online gambling..PLEASE STOP making unnecessry excuses to help the town grown...I think that the older population have NO clue what an assest this could be to the area...not passing this is going to cause more of a turnoff for future growth. We were born and raised in the Hertord/Bertie area and we have not seen any change or growth since we left 18years ago...it's still the same old same old...SMH!
