John Hinton, Chowan University vice president for human resources and the driving force behind the birth of the university’s new fight song, leads in the singing of that song at a pep rally Thursday at the Murfreesboro school.

Woodmen of the World Lodge 862 in Murfreesboro honored the heroes and victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attach on the World Trade Center on Sunday with a ceremony on the lawn of the Jefcoat Museum. As a part of that ceremony, a flag presented to the museum was raised and then lowered to half staff.

Honored at the annual banquet of the Northampton Chamber of Commerce Thursday night in Jackson were, from left, the Town of Conway as Municipality of the Year, accepted by Mayor Brian Bolton; Watson Builders as Business of the Year, accepted by Art and Cindy Watson; and outgoing chamber board member Bill Little.

Honored at the Tuesday meeting of the Murfreesboro Town Council was Tyniquea Chantell Joyner, who, based on her academic record and school activities, “represented Murfreesboro in an exceptional manner while serving in the capacity of a page in the North Carolina General Assembly House of Representatives,” according to a proclamation presented Joyner by Murfreesboro Mayor Lynn Johnson. Tyniquea (at the right) is the daughter of Donna Regina Lewis of Murfreesboro.
