Ridgecroft School volleyball split a pair of conference outings last week.
The Lady Rams knocked off Northeast Academy in a four-set affair before falling to Hobgood Academy later in the week.
Ridgecroft started with a tough match at Northeast when they dropped the first game 25-11 before rallying to beat the Lady Eagles 25-22, 25-23 and 25-20.
In the first game, Jennifer Sykes served eight consecutive points for Northeast to give them a big lead and they cruised to the win. The Lady Rams, however, bounced back in game number two when Mary Myers rolled off eight in a row of her own to help Ridgecroft win 25-22.
In the third game, it was Myers again who had a solid serving performance to give the Lady Rams the win. In the fourth game, it was close throughout, but Myers rolled off six in a row to give Ridgecroft a 21-16 lead from which they were able to win.
“We were a little shaky in game one, but we had a great day offensively and defensively,” said second-year coach Susan Oliver.
Ridgecroft was led by Lindsay Jacob who recorded 11 kills and three tips during the afternoon. Emily Cooke added eight tips and four kills while Sara Hackney had two tips and block. Mary-Kate Morris had four kills and one tip and Brice Harrison had two kills.
Later last week, however, the Lady Rams suffered a straight-set loss to Hobgood Academy. The Lady Raiders won 25-14, 25-15 and 25-14.
“Our overall team serving percentage was only 93 percent which was not our best game for sure,” Oliver said.
Morris led the Lady Rams with four kills and one tip while Cooke had three blocks, six tips and one kill. Jacob added one tip and one kill.
Ridgecroft is now 5-5 overall this season and 2-3 in the Tarheel Independent Conference.
