Published Saturday, October 24, 2009

AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Police Department is seeking a suspect involved in a shooting here Friday evening.

Talametrius Keyon Spruill is sought on the charges of attempted first degree murder and possession of firearm by felon. Spruill is described as a 28-year-old black male standing 5’-8”, 160 pounds with black hair in a short afro style.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said Spruill should be considered armed and dangerous. He advised those approaching Spruill should do so using extreme caution.

At approximately 6:58 p.m. on Friday, the Ahoskie Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from a citizen advising that a shooting took place on Maple Street, in the 200 block.

A male subject was reported to have been shot multiple times. When officers arrived on the scene, neither the victim nor the suspect was there.

Chief Fitzhugh said the victim, whose identity was not released, was taken by private vehicle to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. He was later airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. There, Fitzhugh said the victim was in critical condition.

There was no information on what type of weapon was used in the shooting.

Those with information on Spruill’s whereabouts are urged to contact APD Lt. Jeremy Roberts at 252-332-5012.

People can blame Hip-Hop and entertainment all they want, people were committing Random Acts of Senseless Violence
even when when everyone was into afrocentricity and the shiny suit “Lets have fun and dance” era.

Basically its starts in the communites, its going to take councilmen and parents of these neighbourhoods and schools to work with community organizations to find constructive ways of getting bored, disenfranchised teenagers and black males to find a positve outlets. The enviroment breeds the emotion, so you have to try the best you can to somehow change that.

Another case of senseless violence. I can't hide how hurt I am after this story was brought to my attention and all the violence that occurs in our city with our youth. We as parents, friends, neighbors and as a community have failed. I hope that we as a community can step up and be better role models, teachers and parents to ALL of these children........
