Teen hurt in 4-wheeler accident

Published Saturday, November 28, 2009

ASKEWVILLE – The roads of the Roanoke-Chowan region have been mostly safe through the first two days of the Thanksgiving Holiday season.

Only one minor incident was reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol in the region Thursday or early Friday morning.

A two-vehicle accident was reported Thursday on N.C. 305 in Bertie County when a four-wheeler operated by a Brooklyn, New York teenager crashed into a car traveling north on the highway.

According to a report filed by Trooper C.W. Godwin, Kisha Nelson, 14, was operating a four-wheeler owned by her grandfather in the front yard of her grandparents’ home.

“She was making a turn to go back into the yard and pulled in front of a vehicle traveling north on N.C. 305,” Trooper Godwin said.

The four-wheeler made contact with a 2004 Ford Taurus being driven by Rosa Bond of Windsor.

Nelson was transported to Bertie Memorial Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries, according to Trooper Godwin.
